Description Revisiting the Ring of Barahir  (replica by Medioevo), I decided to do a photoshoot with the ancient book page that Saruman consults when he hears the description of the Ring from Grima. There is no print-ready version of this document, so I had to carefully examine the film scene and some props created by others  and shared on the Web. The film prop text   is only half visible and the replica prop was not screen accurate so I had to guess certain parts of the document based on both props, but mostly staying true to the film prop. I used the original sketch used in the film (I think either by Alan Lee or Daniel Reeve) and then proceeded to type the document using the Tengwar free font, adding the accents later using an ink pen since the accents on the font are not screen accurate. Though it was time consuming I think the end product is something I'm quite happy with.

Hi there, I'm here to bring you a bit of Critique cheer on behalf of the Community Critmas 2018 team.

I just have to say your attention to detail is impressive. Not only did you painstakingly work on the text (with lacking information to aid you), but you created such a delightful scene that wouldn't be amiss in a lord of the rings set. The lighting is fantastic and illuminates the whole picture without leaving too much to the dark (which can be a trouble when creating sets like this). You clearly know your stuff because it looks so professional. I can tell a lot of effort was put into this and it really does show in the finished picture.

How long did this take, if you don't mind me asking?

Also, if you were to do this again and had access to anything you needed, would you do anything differently?

Fantastic piece and I thank you for sharing it. Keep up the good work and have a wonderful 2019!

Thanks very much for your very kind words! I am not a professional photographer at all, and I think the lighting worked in my favor. The random pieces of props that I had lying around were not carefully planned either. The rest of the maps and pages were simply printed out. Making the ring document took a couple of days, not particularly for the typing (which of course was time consuming because I had to look up the shape of the character from the character map, and tengwar has a lot of characters that look almost the same), but thinking the ways I could complete the missing parts without typing in completely random letters. I did write to Daniel Reeve who created all the calligraphy props of the films but I haven't heard from him, obviously he's busy. If I could do it again, I would be happy to have the correct version of the text, thick parchment paper manually aged (soaking with tea, as I hear) and better props like glass phials, inkwells and vintage candle holders etc.

Best wishes of the year to you as well!
