Really great capture of motion. Very artistic. I love the way your flash freeze on the trees. Hats off to you for using an old manual focus film camera.

Fantastic motion capture!
I read above on how you got the effect, a bit lucky with the other guys flash as you said, but it makes a great shot nonetheless.

Do you recall what shutter speed and iso you were using?

Lucky indeed. I was probably using ISO400 film, and I remember it being quite dark in the woods, so probably a shutter of 1/30th with the lens wide open at f2.8.

Great motion blur and the lighting is realy amazing, are you using two flashes or is the light from the right natural?

There's a little bit of natural light (hence the blur), and I got lucky with a flash from another photographer (on takeoff). Couldn't have organised it better!

Really nice photo, I was going to hazzard a guess as to the course but I cant be sure so I'll keep quiet

You deffo want an external flash it makes such a difference. But using another mans flash is genius and has worked so well with that shot. Really lovely

Many thanks for the on Inners1 very much appreciated.

I dunno the course name, it was over in the Ludlow - Bishops Castle area. I believe it's a permanent course, Forestry Commission land or similar.

I'll know for next time about the flash gun!

Thanks for commenting. I got quite lucky as it was pretty dark in the woods, so I had to use a slowish shutter speed with the ISO400 film in the camera. I went and stood next to a pro photographer who was using flash, and all I had to do was pan through the jump, while his flash highlighted the bike & rider on takeoff. It was my first (and currently only) time doing a downhill race, so I'll know for next time to take a flashgun (or a pocket-sized pro photographer!).
