the art work seems to be a THULUTH script written few hundred years ago by one of the Turkish great calligraphers. The Pen (cane or reed) put over was not used to write the poem as you could notice that from the width of writing tip.
The poem is for Imam Buwaysiri who was born in south Egypt in 1213, 800 years ago. The poem called "Alburada Alsharifa" and it is one of the greatest poem in the Arabic cultural history.
It's written with Standard Arabic and translating it won't be an easy task, I found the translation and here you go:
Had it not been for the love, you would not have shed tears at the ruins (of your beloved).
Nor would you become restless at the remembrance of the cypress (tree) the high mountain

it really carries a message !
teacher, you proof here that the artist should be a good messenger of his culture and identity. It's rarely to see an artist (Muslim artist at least) who is proud of his culture which is very rich to offer and show it to the others.
the work :
very nice, and the warm colors are very integrated and complemented with the feeling witch the poem tell us about !
about the poem (or Al-Abyat) :
the last (Bayt) is broken
repeat it again :

Best Regards
Osama

Stunning and so beautiful! It has such a calming effect on the eyes... somehow, full of grace and holds the viewers gaze. Can you also put up a translation? Did you write the calligraphy, too?
Beautiful job!
