Description Die to the beat
Of the feet
Of the ones
Coming,
Drumming along.

Die in defeat,
Incomplete,
Always wanting,
Something,
When nothing's wrong.

Die, retreat,
The elite
Are grunting,
Something,
Now everything's wrong.

Hmmm nice.

I interpret this as someone dying for their ideals - dying to their own beat - the beat of the war drum, the feet in the funeral procession, something, anything, whatever they choose to listen to - whilst the 'elite' play their petty games, completely oblivious and having no ideals of their own, never find the satisfaction, the achievement, that the other has found in death.

It's pretty bleak, but I can't help but think that those who have died have also somehow won something.

Wow, good interpretation, I love it. The last line of the poem "...now everything's wrong" I wrote to describe how when those people are gone, the world falls apart.

I think I see what you meant by that line. Once soldiers die - those who were really willing to die for their ideals - who is left? The people at the top, snug and safe in their own homes, spluttering and posturing and justifying why it was necessary for others to march to their deaths.

I don't often think about this sort of thing, but this is definitely thought-provoking. I wasn't really thinking about war or politics. I was just thinking of any genuine rebels, any true dreamers, as opposed to those who claim to have ideals, yet only give the illusion of believing in a greater cause, actually being selfish and hollow inside. Of course, it doesn't need to be a real cataclysm. Dreamers die (metaphorically) every day. Someone I greatly respect once told me that though people accuse artists of being selfish, in fact, all artists sacrifice something for the sake of their art. I'm still trying to work out what he meant by that.

Just typing whatever new thought comes into my head - don't pay it any heed if you don't want to!

This has a completely different meaning to me. This to me is about dancing. Die to the beat, die with the music is like... classy dancing, but now everyone is grinding and grunting and it's wrong and it isn't dancing.

That's an interesting take, I like that.
