Politics is a myth. A stupid, absolutely sickening fad. People need to just get the fuck over themselves and learn to, heaven forbid, think outside of their pretentious little bubble of a life. But that's hardly a possible prospect considering how much we treat politics as some biased popularity poll, not thinking of what we could achieve with sensible decisions.

This is my rant/two cents in a bigger context, not just this, so I'd appreciate no unfair bitching in my direction.

It's hardly bias. I showed this to estudio because the concept was interesting, not of what candidate I support.

I highly doubt you would find the concept nearly as "interesting" were it a Republican candidate. I doubt even more the mods will prove me wrong.

In all actuality, I'm considering voting Republican.

VentAnger In reply to IaiaRose [2008-02-19 22:06:47 +0000 UTC]

That's not really the point. I just want art that's featured to either be non-political or at least fair in it's projections.

Lealta In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-20 07:29:22 +0000 UTC]

How is this photo unfair in its projections? The photographer is not asking anyone to vote for Hillary-- the photographer has not even said he / she supports Hillary. You can interpret this photo however you like. Just because it's a photograph of a political person does not mean the photograph is meant to convey a political statement. You could instead focus on the relationship between Bill and Hillary, the fatigue of the campaign trail, the speaker-to-audience dynamic, etc. I think there are more emotional aspects than political ones to this photo. There's also a lot of value to the composition-- because Hillary is dressed in bright colours, and is in a much sharper resolution than everything else, she really pops out of the photo. I think that adds a lot. The site staff chose it because of things like that, not because it's of a democratic candidate. I'm pretty sure that if they found a photo of the same quality of a republican, they wouldn't refrain from featuring it. You seem to be making a lot of (rather unfair) assumptions about this. There's no need to jump down people's throats because you don't like a certain candidate. Neither the site staff nor the photographer has tried to impose views upon you, and I think we'd all appreciate it if you'd return the favour.

IaiaRose In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-19 22:14:02 +0000 UTC]

If nothing political is featured, then that's not allowing a degree of expression. The site staff extend the same courtesy to all views, regardless. Otherwise there might not be such people as Nazis on site.

VentAnger In reply to IaiaRose [2008-02-19 22:38:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh, then I suppose you're saying that you're going to feature Nazi art anytime soon? As long as it's not offensive of course.

There's no reason to cry about it. It's an aesthetically pleasing photograph and it deserves the DD.
Even if it made the DD due to a bias, you have to remember that most everything these days has a bias of sorts - if it's not in your favour, you really don't need to get your panties in a bunch about it. Honestly, it's just a photograph. Not serious business.

VentAnger In reply to AestheticNihility [2008-02-19 21:28:47 +0000 UTC]

That's ridiculously dishonest. 90% of the art even on THIS website does not have even the slightest of political undertones. This is a picture OF a political candidate, it hardly gets more political than that. You're vapid if you can't distinguish the difference.

AestheticNihility In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-19 22:17:37 +0000 UTC]

I meant in general. You yourself said that the ~mods are biased~ or whatever, so that's what I was referring to. I also extended the reference to the majority of the mass media, so it's not dishonest at all.
Either way, throwing a juvenile fit over a piece of political art isn't going to get you anywhere. Sorry to break it to you.

VentAnger In reply to AestheticNihility [2008-02-19 22:36:43 +0000 UTC]

Juvenile fit? Hardly. You must be projecting.

AestheticNihility In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-19 22:51:47 +0000 UTC]

That is how I see it. I would find it hard to believe I am the only one.
You're making a big deal over something that shouldn't be. Just let it go; it's a DD and you can pound your fists on your keyboard all you want but just between you and me, I don't think that's going to change anything.

VentAnger In reply to AestheticNihility [2008-02-19 23:01:01 +0000 UTC]

Pounding my fists on the keyboard? Good lord man, I'm probably one of the most laid back people you'll never get to meet. But geez, I guess if you hate free and open debate that much, just ignore it and move along.

AestheticNihility In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-19 23:29:42 +0000 UTC]

A debate? Sorry, I misconstrued this as you pissing and moaning about "this bias" and "that bias" and very little else.
I'm all for a good debate, mate, but I wouldn't call this a debate at all.

The Democrat Party isn't left-wing, despite what American politics suggest. It's center to somewhat right of center, depending on issues.

That fact, and the fact that both of your parties are therefore somewhat right-sided for most anyone except Americans, might contribute to the fact that moderators from all over the world might prefer Democrat.

It's somewhat like a Hitler-era german complaining the rest of the world doesnt give Hitler sufficient spotlight as someone else - although not nearly as dramatic, but the example serves to demonstrate my point.

VentAnger In reply to Albareth-Dragon [2008-02-19 19:35:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow. All the Democratic candidates prefer government run health care over private systems, they're anti private schools and want to pump ludicrous amounts of money into public schools, paying for it by taxing the "rich", and you call Democrats right of center.

Answer me this, what left-wing idea does the Democratic party NOT uphold?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sabbrielle In reply to VentAnger [2008-02-20 03:18:00 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps American Democrats would have to openly support a domestic communist revolution or sharia to be considered "left-wing" on the "world stage."

Tantsui In reply to Sabbrielle [2008-02-20 04:52:19 +0000 UTC]

I have to say, Sharia law is pretty right-wing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sabbrielle In reply to Tantsui [2008-02-20 17:35:58 +0000 UTC]

I think to have a meaningful argument about that, we'd have to define our terms first. :-P

I made that statement in light of the fact that left-of-center European governments are currently giving in to Sharia. Appeasement is a left-wing defense mechanism.

Tantsui In reply to Sabbrielle [2008-02-20 17:40:40 +0000 UTC]

I see. I figured you were talking about Sharia law itself.

I wouldn't call what's going on 'appeasement', actually. Do you expect them to tell other nations what they can and can't do?

Then Jeb will take office. Then Chelsea(sp?) Clinton. Then the Bush girls will clean up their act, become born again, and take office as president and vice president.

Yeah... that's why I'm hoping it'll be Obama vs McCain.

I just choose whose policies I like the most. I don't really like to choose someone just based on their party. And I have trouble because I like some policies of both parties...man it sucks. I am never really happy with any candidate.

Well, we do have the Independent party, but they are always...a bit off...and then there is Ron Paul (who is a little nuts if you ask me. He wants to do away with the Federal Reserve...if we did that EVERY bank would issue its own currency and our money would be worth nothing...he's a special kid). We need a credible party for middle of the road people.

We have more than two. Democrat and Republican are the ones with the most attention. But we have Green Party candidates, Libertarian, and sometimes there are Independent candidates.

Very sharp and the noise level is decent for such a high ISO indoors. I like the fact you can see Mr. Clinton in the background, sort of blurred out and tired looking. It's as if he's passing his time in politics onto his wife. Good job. Lucky you got to see her
