Description
This was another Tolkien commission I did for my friend Joe to accompany his Fangolin and Morgoth picture!This time, he wanted me to paint Fëanor forging the Silmaril's. I had to reference a ton (and I mean a TON) of stuff to even do this. And ask Joe a million questions, as he's a Tolkien expert, but I finally finished it!
After... probably 3-4 months of working on it off and on (I'd say a few weeks total) I think I finally finished it.
Fëanor is seen here giving his essence along with the light of the two trees in the background (Telperion's silver and Laurelin's gold, otherwise known as the Trees of Valinor) into the three gems and thus creating the artifact worth most in the Tolkien world.
It was supposed to be simpler, but I wanted to make this a little more extravagant for Joe as he's been a good friend of mine for a long time.

Everything is stunning about this but the trees. The silver and gold colors seem right, the light is good but not mystic. The trees look like an afterthought, or from another work. More detail in them would make this a masterwork. The rest is amazing and one of the best on the site.

Beautiful work depicting the creation of such beautiful gemstones! The lights of Telperion and Laurelin being woven into the Silmarils by Fëanor really shall stoke Melkor's fury and envy...!
