Prompt: twisted

My idea was to draw just one super contorted twisted-up pose and do full color, but I didn’t quite like the first sketch, so I sketched another, and another, and I realized I was spending so much time trying to get a perfect one that it had swung around to being more efficient to just ink all the less-than-perfect attempts on the page and add some quick pencils.

Seeing the end result, I realize that multiple drawings were probably needed to convey what I found intriguing about the character & wanted to try to depict, and that’s why none of the single drawings felt right on their own. The problem is not that Gollum can tie himself up in a knot, the problem is that he is able to walk around while he’s tied up in a knot, and also sneak up behind you that way, and climb sheer cliff walls. So it works better to have a series of drawings, because it shows the range of motion and looks livelier.

oh also I included some water, because I half-jokingly called this mermay art and then drew him exclusively on dry land for the first two days.
