Secret Santa 2011
After 2009 and 2010's success, PresentsFromSanta is back!
PresentsFromSanta is an all-inclusive Secret Santa open to everyone, where you can send and receive in any medium. Artisan crafters can receive stories, photographers can get jewellery, pixel artists can get drawings, writers can get stamps, painters can get plushies... you name it!
I spend absolutely hours matching people up to make sure that everyone gets something they're happy to draw or make, ensuring everyone ends up with a gift they're delighted with and no-one has any excuse for not finishing their gift
What's more, if you want to you can opt in to receive your gift in the mail. So you actually get your present in real life on your doorstep! I think this is really exciting - and I'm sure loads of you agree - but if you don't want to share your address, don't worry. Many people choose to participate only online and they are delighted with their gifts too
Here are some previous years' awesome presents to pique your interest...

Not from Santa...
Of course, the presents aren't actually from Santa and that's what makes them special. The exciting part is that you could receive absolutely anything, from almost anywhere in the world.
We make no judgements on your artistic ability - PresentsFromSanta really is open to anyone - but that doesn't mean you can just scribble off any old thing. Instead we ask you to agree to spend TIME on your gift. Some people spend hours and hours on their gifts and it just wouldn't be fair if they ended up with something in return that only took five minutes.
So you think you might like to join in, here's what we'll ask of you. You need to be open to draw (or make, photograph, write, etc.) anything that is suggested to you.
The "wishlist" you are presented with will have a few different options on it for you to choose from, so you can go with what inspires you, but you have to be open to drawing at least one of them! We are looking for the sort of people who, if they are given things to draw they weren't expecting, will go for it and really give it their all in trying to make an awesome gift anyway, rather than those who would end up not getting round to it because it's not their ideal assignment. I will try my best to give you something cool to draw or make, but we are keen to get people on board who are enthusiastic about drawing whatever's on the list You need to put time into the gift.
I mentioned this already. It doesn't matter if you're not the next Van Gogh - if you put five hours into making something, that gift means a lot more than a scribble from someone more talented. Time means effort, and if you can't be arsed, why should YOUR Santa be? If you choose to participate by mail, you need to be willing to post it internationally, and post it in plenty of time for Christmas.
You don't have to send and receive by mail, but if you do choose to then this is a requirement. Decide NOW whether you can afford it, whether you have the time to mail it, etc. (set the money aside if need be) and stick to that decision. If you think there's any chance you won't have the cash or you won't get it done in time, then participate in the "non-postal" Secret Santa. Better that than letting someone down. Please read the following: they are important.
Specific requirements for crafters
Specific requirements for writers
Specific requirements for traditional/digital artists
Specific requirements for photographers
Specific requirements for emoticonists/stamp-makers/pixel artists
Specific requirements for people that want to sign up for more than one thing
I can do all that! How do I sign up?
First of all, PresentsFromSanta !
Now go to the relevant article(s). Instructions will be given in there!
Artisan crafts
Writers
Traditional/Digital artists
Emoticonists and all kinds of pixel artists
Photographers
What's the deadline?
If you want to participate by mail as well as online, you will need to get all your details to us by 1 November.
If you want to participate only online, you will need to send us a note by 17 November (and not before the 9th).
EVERYONE will need to submit their gifts to the PresentsFromSanta gallery between 18 and 20 December 2011. So if you're mailing it, take a picture!
If you are participating by mail, you will also need (obviously!) to send your gift by the last posting deadline recommended by your country. This could be as early as 1 December, depending on where you live and where the recipient lives.
Can I help?
Yes! We need more volunteers to help with the admin. If you've got plenty of free time between now and January, read this blog (under where it says "Volunteers") for how to apply.
We also need more points donations to help renew our super group when it runs out. If you have any to spare, please consider donating .

You need to send in an application first and then you'll get assigned a partner. I'm guessing you want to draw for them? If so, follow this link for what to do: [link]

Ok!I have a question. I should probably tell you what it is.
If I made a sculpture or a plushie, would I get a sculpture or a plushie in return? Or is it totally random?

You could be matched with anyone If there's one medium (like drawing) you DON'T want to receive you can tell us - but only one, because this secret Santa is meant to be about accepting all different kinds of media

I'm pretty much good with anything, but one more question. If I give 2 gifts, do I get 2 back or is it one per customer?

You only send and receive one gift each

I don't know what I would be considered under. I draw traditionally (not digitally on SAI, like most people do), but I don't have a scanner, and I upload them by taking photographs.

Follow the link to drawing But you should think about whether you'd be able to get to a library or a friend's house to scan your image just for the secret Santa, as things do normally look better that way. Or at the least take a look at this tutorial: [link]
(It's aimed at taking good photos of crafts, not drawings, but might help anyway.)

I'm having a very hard time reading the small print because I have bad eyes. Right now they're hurting because I attempted to read all of the necessary info, but I didn't get through it all.
So how do I get info about what I want to you? What information do you need from me?
I'm a photo-manipulator but I want to gift a merchandise of their choice with a image on it that the reciever described. This shouldn't be a problem because I want them to add it to their wish list, and it will be mailed directly to them. I am wiling to send internationally and I understand all of the mailing deadlines, and that you want a photograph, etc., of our gift for the group. But I can't' find out more info than that myself.

You mean like for example you make an image and put it on a mug? If it's mailed directly to them, how will you get a photo to the group?

TheFantaSim In reply to Itti [2011-10-20 15:11:53 +0000 UTC]
Yes. And I need to upload the image so that they can select their merchandise. I'll have to send you the original image. Is that okay?
I could go to a copy place or one on line to do something for me, but then I'd have to wait to get it to send it postal. This is easier to get them the gift directly. Also I think dA is cheaper because I've sent international with dA before, and I couldn't believe the price. It's also easier if the member doesn't want to share their home address.

I will join this year too
One question, do we need to make a wish list again?

You do, but that will be sorted out later. (Keep an eye on the #PresentsFromSanta blogs - there'll be an update in the next few days.) For now you just submit as it says in the article

If you want to participate by mail as well as online, you can apply now; applications close on the 1st November.
If you want to participate online-only, watch #PresentsFromSanta and you'll be notified when applications for that part are open, which will be some time on the 9th.
