Description
This illustration (a digital painting using as its' base a lineart / sketch I produced with ink during October '17, when I was taking part in the INKtober challenge) features my version of the CALEUCHE, the sentient Ghost Ship from the Chilote Mythology, as it appears in personal fiction story project, IXIPTLA (meaning "impersonator" in the nahuatl language). if you appreciate my work, feel free to follow me in:

*- The Chilote mythology refers to the traditional beliefs of the people from the Chiloé Archipelago, in Southern Chile: those of the nomadic Chonos, the Huilliche (a.k.a "Southerners" in Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche) and also later settlers.
There are several tales about the Caleuche, in some versions it was a sea lion who lost his companion to fishermen, and was transformed by MILLALONCO (a.k.a "Millalobo", meaning "Golden Wolf" in reference to the Sea Lion), the king of the seas, to take revenge against humanity (In this picture, he's the figure featured in the right bottom, rising from the sea and carryinga conch). The Caleuche usually regarded as a transport of people who died in the sea, and its supernatural crew reputedly kidnaps and enslaves people during its night travels. Some say the ship's crew forges pacts with wealthy warlocks in the area, granting them protection in exchange of goods. This was usual during the time when local authorities were on the hunt for a supposed secret organization of sorcerers referred to as "La Mayoría" (The Majority). Some families that had their properties unscathed after earthquakes were also accused of making pacts with the Caleuche's crew.
In IXIPTLA, the Mayoría is one of many different names of an ancient secret association of mercenaries and bounty hunters, that has the Glaucean AUTOLYCUS as one of its' leaders. A Glaucean is the transition between a human and a Triton, a sophisticated amphibian species also featured in the story of APKALLU. For many years, among its' clients, the Mayoría had the Saqraruna Organization, one of the major antagonists of IXIPTLA, and other of their allies - the secret Palarokhian Order of wizards, in both cases linked to The Dragon of Darkness. The Caleuche is also a major mean of transportation for the aforementioned dragon of darkness.
As for the Millalonco, in IXIPTLA he's a sorcerer from the kind also known as Ahuitzotl, and an ally to the Mayoría.
