Description
In case any of you were wondering what I've been up to all this time: I've attended a preparatory course for Landscape Architecture studies. I can now officially say that I can paint backgrounds. More or less.Up till now I've only been doing course work, which I won't upload here. But today I decided to try out my new skills in a more "my style" piece.
Watercolors and ink. It may be a bit blurry up close (in the downloaded file) because the original was too big for my scanner and I had to take a photo. :/

Nicely done with the detailing of the bushes and trees in the background! Just wondering, how did you incorporate the rays of sunlight onto this? Was it with white acrylic paint? I've been wanting to find faster ways of painting in white with watercolours, without having to actually paint around the intended white area

Thank you.
I actually used white watercolor paint, though in a biggest amount than one would usually use watercolors. XD It covers the colors a bit, but at the same time remains somewhat transparent.
But if you need a clean white area I would recommend masking fluid; you don't have to paint around it.

Ah, I see how the transparency is done. And yes, I have considered masking fluid; just need to find the time to go get some Thanks for the tips (:

What a gorgeous artwork. The brilliant colors and fantastic scenery attracted my eye instantly when I saw this in ~violinist2424 's feature. The critter is adorable and peaceful in its pose, but my favorite part is definitely the scenery. The flowers hanging in the foreground are especially gorgeous, and I really enjoy the delicate leafy texture of the bushes in the backdrop. Great touch with the light beams, too. Overall, this is simply fantastic, in all senses of the word.

I'm glad you feel that way. I wasn't sure if I emphasized the light enough; I thought about adding more yellow on the clearing to make it warmer.
