Asexuality Awareness Week is Oct.21-27 this year!
Kody's sign: "Not "Heartless" (Or abusive!)"
Vic's sign: "Don't need to be "fixed"."
Evan's sign: "Not "Basically straight" (I don't even LIKE GIRLS??)"
My sign: "No, I don't need to "find the right person." (There isn't one.)"
(Kody is Demiromantic(/maybe Demi-homo-romantic) Pansexual, Vic is Homoromantic Asexual, Evan is Biromantic Demisexual, & I consider myself aromantic asexual (aroace))
These are all things I've seen about these respective identities!
- People call aro/ace people (i know kody isn't ace but he's on the aro-spectrum!) heartless because we don't feel romatic/sexual attraction, which is obviously untrue. (The "abusive" part is more toward ace people, because people have been saying that if you,,, don't have sex w/ your partner or you have sex & don't enjoy it that's... abusive or something? idfk)
- They say ace people can be "fixed" because they take it as a horomone imbalance or something and so we have a low sex drive (sex drive & sexual attraction are different things. an ace person can have a high sex drive!) and that can be fixed w/ meds (stupid)
- People say demisexuality is just "the norm" which, uhh, is not true, because if you look at someone and think "i'd have sex with them" or something that's, uh, not? demisexual? and the "i don't even like girls" part is referring to the fact that people think a bi man in a relationship with a woman (and vice-versa) is "basically straight". Again, Evan doesn't even like girls.
- Aaaaaand the "you haven't found the right person yet" thing is mine because i literally got told that by both my mom and my grandfather : ))))))) if i don't fucking like anyone : ))))) how is there going to be a """"""""right""""""""" person : )))))))))))))))) if you can't tell i fucking hate this argument
Other things I considered using (again, all things I've seen said):
Explanation of some things:
- Asexual is being sexually attracted to no one. Demisexual, Graysexual, and various others fall under the Ace umbrella! Same goes with Aromantic--It's romantic attraction to no one, and demiromantic and grayromantic, along with others, fall under the Aro umbrella!
- Being demiromantic or demisexual means you aren't attracted to someone until you form a strong bond with them. You can also add to it to define who exactly you're attracted to (ex demihomoromantic means you're romantically attracted to only the same gender, and only after you've formed a bond.)
- Pansexual is attraction to ALL genders, and isn't the same thing as bisexuality, though they can overlap.
- Adding to that, bisexuality is the attraction to two or more genders. People usually think it's attraction to males and females, or the same gender and something different, but it isn't necessarily, and it can be more than one! It really depends on what label you want to use (because polyromantic means 3 or more!) Evan, for example, is attracted to males and nb people!
- If someone is asexual literally don't fucking call them cishet because they aren't necessarily cishet at all thanks : )
