A thought about the future...

The year 2060 - the average temperature has increased by 2 ° C. The greenhouse effect in combination with the melting of the polar ice caps, which no longer reflects enough solar radiation, heats the earth more and more. Heat waves make entire areas uninhabitable. Rivers dry up and droughts last longer. Sea levels are rising, causing hurricanes to regularly devastate large areas. Millions of people become climate refugees.

Faced with the survival of humanity, scientists focusing on other habitable worlds and mankind just started to colonizing Mars. With the deploy of a skyhook tether momentum exchange system orbiting our planet, the coast of space travel has dropped dramatically. However, the majority of the world’s population remaining on earth, developing alternatives to survive.

More and more people living on artificial, floating islands, designed to withstand natural disasters like floods, tsunamis and hurricanes. These maritime cities offering home to tentohousends residents each and with their facilities they produce their own power with the force of the tide, wind and the energy of the sun. Greenhouses on top but also beneath the surface of the water, in large vertical farms, providing the residents with nutrition. Moored to the ocean floor, they create new artificial reefs. Habitats for a thriving underwater wildlife.

Only after countless critical climate catastrophes and relentless exploitation of natural resources, mankind has finally managed to live in harmony with nature.
