Description
Title: Call of NatureSize: 18"w x 36"h x 0.5"d (sides are painted black, no frame necessary!)
Medium: Oil on canvas
Technique: Finger painted
Date: 2007
Story: The powerful play between human culture and nature was embodied for the ancient Greeks in their great god Pan (known to Romans as Faunus). Half-man and half-goat, he was a free spirit who preferred the countryside to living with the other gods on Mount Olympus, protected shepherds instead of kings, and dallied with as many nymphs as would have him.
No matter how many layers of clothing and rules of etiquette we put between ourselves and the wild, Nature calls to flowers in the garden and the meadow to grow from the dirt, and we are no different despite our deodorants and Sunday best. Pan is the divinity who shows us our souls are rooted in our flesh, neither separate nor warring, but constantly interacting to push us to bloom.
This 18" x 36" painting sees Pan preparing for courtship, or perhaps appreciating the splendor around him by gathering a bouquet. A sweet breeze blows bright leaves across his path, and he turns with an inviting smile: When was the last time you picked flowers for someone?

his face.. i love his face! there's just something so familiar and trusting about it.. it's like you'd perfectly okay with the idea of approaching this guy in the middle of no where.
it's such friendly and playful painting... great job!
i'd worship him anyday! lol just had to get that out of my system.

You're the most amazing finger painter I know of! I was showing my friends your work and told them you'd finger painted it and his jaw fell on the floor ^^
this one's great, your body composition is always so nice.

Thanks, Jac! For both the compliments and for showing your friends my work.
I may add more to this painting later on if it stays in my studio. It's hard for me to leave things alone!

Oh, that's happened to me, too--but what I learn in ruining something is always worth it.

Yay for Larry and Nelson! They've missed you, I know.
Something does die...maybe it's perfectionism (which is related to fear?), but what gets born in its stead is soooo important.
Like using tracing paper so you don't ink directly on your pencils again! I learned this in illustration class--besides using tools like Photoshop, photocopying, tracing, and transferring an image help to check out your possibities before doing anything (if ever) to the original pencils (it offers cleaner work, too--something important when you're preparing for printing).
But yeah, I kilt daid a few drawings and paintings myself. But I always knew I could make more drawings and paintings, so eh, no worries in the long run.
The invested time, though, does hurt when you experience a "loss." I had someone tell me it was "tuition"--for a life lesson.
Take care,
I.

hmm thanks, i agree.
i'm too lazy to go get tracing paper, although i think it'd be a good investment.
thank you muchly!!

Perhaps next year, or a trip for me up to that green state of yours.
