Very niece piece. I would like to agree with shelbytsheep. The bell seems very matte. Also, It would be better if you extended the leadpipe because it is too short. The crook (part that leads to the bell) is also short. It needs to be brought back. If you do those things, the trumpet will feel less squashed. The mouthpiece shouldn't flare so much. The leadpipe on an expensive horn is rose, because it warms the sound. There is no kicker on the 1st valve (that would give this the appearance of a more expensive trumpet). As for the bell, and the lead, it grows too soon. It's more like an exponential growth.

I love the case!

I know I'm being soooo picky. I'm sorry. I'm doing it for myself, because The other day I thought about modeling my horn as well. The only 3d program I know is 3ds max because that's what they taught, and I suck at sub surface modeling, so I'm just making notes for myself.

none the less, +fav

I love the texturing on the case and the glow that the trumpet has in some places.
My only peeve with it would be the angle of the trumpet, but you touched on that in a response to another comment.

I used to years ago, but haven't picked one up for a long time. I do miss it sometimes, but I play guitar and bass now so it's not too bad. Cheers!

I had 2 years of piano but never kept up with it-HUGE REGRET!!! Funny thing is-my dad said "You'll regret giving up piano" and I didn't listen. Now, I regret it. Oh well.

Myself being a trumpet player, I might suggest that the tubing along the entire thing until the bell starts getting wider be made a bit thicker. It looks too thin as is, but is otherwise really good! Also, I'm very sorry for the extremely late comment. The case is very well done, but maybe the stitching on it should be lighter? I have a case almost identical to that for my cornet, and the stitching is more beige toned. You could also fray it a bit, because the case looks to be older than the trumpet (judging by the cracks on it), and maybe the metal on the case could look more weathered? Like, some of the varnish worn off?
As to the trumpet's angle, if you rotated it just slightly (so you can see more of the bottom of the valves, or so that the bend in the front of it touched the case), it would pass as logical; my trumpet sits on it's case like that all the time.
The mouthpiece on the trumpet could be a lot more detailed, if you look at a picture of a mouthpiece, most have more shaping to them than that. The basic shape is perfectly fine, though. It may also be a bit large for the trumpet, but I'll attribute that to perspective. You should be able to see more of the inside of the cup of it though; it looks like it's bent a bit the wrong way. Not to be mean or anything (because I realize this comment is starting to get very long and picky) but the mouthpiece could be a lot shinier. And so could the bell of the trumpet.

Hope this helps and wasn't too rude or picky! And just to be sure, I could never create something this well. It really is well done.

Hey-
Those are great comments and I really appreciate them. There were definitely "flaws" in this image-no excuses, I just got too lazy to fix any of them and moved on to other projects. I was never happy with the mouthpiece-looks like some weird "unknown to any earthbound metallurgists" metal and was not like my trumpet mouthpiece at all.
Thanks again!

You're welcome Glad that I wasn't too mean I sometimes get carried away and then start to be really picky and sometimes it upsets people
Glad you appreciated it

Love the suitcase, really great texturing and modeling on that... trumpets fine too but it does not look as realistic as the case...

Thank you for the comments. Any suggestions on the trumpet to make it more realistic? I've already been told to "dirty it up", but ya know, SOMETIMES a trumpet is NEW (sorry, that's my backlash to all the "dirty it up" folks out there who think EVERYTHING should be dirty, even new shiny stuff.

I used Lightwave's bevel tool to make most of it (started with a disc, then beveled the trumpet's body from that).

Thanks for the comment!

Thanks, Ice Angel. I like a lot of different media and styles. I love traditional art as well as digital art. I'm currently into abstract in traditional art, and Photoshop and 3D in digital.

Take care.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions.

I get a lot of "What the heck is holding that thing up?" Perhaps I could go the surrealist route and show rusty chains descending from the top of the image or something?

Or, or, maybe I could put a portal on the wall in the background, show some planets and stars in the window, and suggest it is low gravity! Heh.

I actually did a warmer version of it, but ended up preferring the cooler version- the silver lost something when it came out with a warm tone.

Thanks again.

lovely work

feel it could use another something small for better realism like maybe...
some type of stand to hold the trumpet the way it is
some softenning of the texture and stitches on the case where it's close to us
a hue slightly warmer on the blue silver u've picked

... just thoughts/ideas
cheers
~jaakobou

p.s. i could use some 3d notes now and then .. just started out with 3dmax
