Description
Description: This script will add thumb code collecting capabilities to deviantArt. It is also capable, of sorting thumbs, and sending notes to deviants one has featured in a journal or news article. Use it to collect tons of thumbs for features and forum activities.Shameless self promotion
Installing If you don't already have GreaseMonkey installed on your Firefox, than click here to install it . After you restarted FireFox click here to install ThumbTools. GreaseMonkey will ask if you'd like to install the script, click "install" and enjoy! IMPORTANT If you have Thumbler, or the previous version of ThumbTools installed, un-install it first.
This is still a buggy BETA! Please report all errors you may come across!Keep regularly checking the menu! If a new version is released, a new menu item will appear to inform you about that!
Usage Drag your mouse over an image, and copy the thumb code. To collect more thumbs press the + button, and use the "dA Thumbs" button in the "ThumbTools" menu!
PLEASE SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT by visiting my gallery, or donating points.
Developer:
Note on Chrome compatibility: User scripts for Chrome do not allow GM_getValue and GM_setValue, and I'm making extensive use of them in this script! Due to this short coming I do not see a Chrome compatible version in the near future!

Version 2.0.32 beta
Two tiny bug fixes
Version 2.0.321 beta
=Dediggefedde has partially restored functionality, after the project and the plugin was dead for about 2 years. Thanks for that!
Next version: The project was dead for 2 years now after I had started to have financial problems. Since than my life returned to normal, but for now I have other pet projects that are more dear to my heart. Also keeping a grease monkey script alive, is a pain if the host site is changing frequently and refuses to provide an API, so it is simply just more work than it's worth. Maybe one day (when the 5th or 6th similar grease monkey with basically the same features gets created, and then abandoned) dA will realize that this feature should be part of their own website, or at least they provide some kind of API. But until than I don't think I have time to take care of this regularly.
Features I wish I could have done:
User definable output styles, Support for HTML and BB codes, support Large tumbs, support :dev: and :icon: codes
handle :print: codes and prints
Saving and loading lists, adding to saved list
Show thumb menu on deviations page too.
Auto-sync selection indicators between windows
Suggest DD
Requirement FireFox, GreaseMonkey
Any other idea is welcome!
If you extend this script, please send it back to me, so I can include it in the next version

Well... it took me count less hours of hard work to write the script, so why not include that?

that look interesting! ah, I'm so glad you didn't put the "fav it" option, it would be a pain if people faved pictures without even zooming them....
grats on your DD!

Thanks!
Deviants can already fave deviations without ever opening the image. You can just drag'n'drop thumbs to your collections! So I don't think that it would make any difference if I include a button like that

Thank you thank you thank you for making this!
Just a little note: It seems like literature deviations appear twice in the dA Thumbs-area. Also, it'd be nice to have a preview for the notes. But it's fine like this too.

Yeah... ThumbTools was designed with images in mind! It's a shame but I never read literature on dA, so I just didn't think of it sorry... but I'll make sure to fix this issue by the next beta! A new menu item will appear in the ThumbTools menu, if I update the script!

No worries, I can understand that very well, I didn't use to read literature at dA at all either They don't show up in dA's sitback slideshow either... It's not a big deal, but it's kind of you to fix it. :]
Oh and I linked this in my journal too, a bit silly with the DD perhaps but anyway

Yeah... I know about Thumber! The first version of ThumbTools appeared on the same day as Thumber. Back than =diado had luck, as his script was discovered earlier!

CarrotStalker In reply to ivettordog [2010-06-13 21:26:01 +0000 UTC]
Aww, bad luck then! But at least you got your DD now I actaully liked Thumber's layout a little better so that's why I used that one, but I didn't realize this one is much more practical! Especially that you can preview all thumbs you've collected without having to go to your journal or something.
I don't know if it's a bug but I'm finding it hard to copy single thumbs without going to the dA Thumbs area, when I hover over the thumb it shows up all nicely till I rightclick and move the cursor slightly away to click 'copy', then the 'thumb-window' disappears. Or am I just using it the wrong way?

ivettordog In reply to CarrotStalker [2010-06-14 06:14:56 +0000 UTC]
Yeah... I'm really happy about the DD right now... and this time it's not the attention whore in me that is glad... I'm happy because this way all the hard work I put into this is actually helping a lot of people!
The thing you mentioned is actually a bug but not a really big one I never ever use right click to copy paste, instead press c while holding down the ctrl key. That way you don't have to leave the pop-up with the mouse. For now please try to use it like this, and I'll try to figure out something to make it work with the right-click method! Thanks for calling my attention to this little glitch.

This script is absolutely awesome, and so helpful!
For an idea, it would be cool if you could have a way of having several separate thumb lists so you could keep different parts divided without losing convenience. Just a suggestion, but I'm sure it would be helpful to many.

ivettordog In reply to TheFulkrum [2010-06-11 15:00:12 +0000 UTC]
Select the deviations you have featured (you may even have them already selected if you collected the thumbs with thumb tools, and then you can press "send notes to deviants"! This will generate messages and send them to each deviant whose deviation is in the current list
Hope that answered your question

Yes it did. My fault. You're doing a wonderful job. Keep it up. For the 'fave and runners', try and get a little icon so that the person can just fave it in the preview.
Please people reading this, don't kill me. It is JUST an idea.

I thought of that one too, but with the drag'n'drop to collections feature of dA it seemd rather redundant

TheFulkrum In reply to ivettordog [2010-06-13 10:21:44 +0000 UTC]
Wait wait wait. You think it's EASY for us to just hold down a button on a mouse? The we have to MOVE the hand towards the top of the screen man! Some of us may even have to hold the button down and scroll the collection section to the right, or left, whatever.
You expect us to do too much my friend. Now I would like, for your next feature, to allow me to cook my dinner with the click of one button. The button should be next to the '+' sign. That's closest. And it should NOT require me to have to work out and hold the damned think. One click, dinner ready.
I have money.

This is so fantastic!
It is a little buggy for literature thumbs that's the only thing - it takes a while to get the hover bit to stay up so that it's able to have the thumb added - but other than that this is wonderful!

Please make sure that your notes were sent! Since ThumbTools was designed for collecting image thumbs, I'm not 100% sure that the note sending part works correctly! The notes should have appeared in your notes sent folder!

Actually (I don't know which key is shift on my keyboard) but the one underneath capslock - if I hold that down whilst trying to select literature it stops me having to chase the thing Also - how does the 'sort thumbs' bit work? If that button i'm pressing is shift, then it's not working to multiply select lit thumbs either
But I still likes this I'm going to pop it in the article
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ivettordog In reply to Kaz-D [2010-06-11 14:34:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah... the button under claps lock is usually the shift key
I checked what happens with literature thumbs, and I'll try to fix it... Keep checking your thumb tools menu: a new menu item will appear if I release the next version. Multiple select with lit is probably not working for the same reason... ThumbTools was designed with images in mind... I'll try to fix all that as soon as possible!
About sort thumbs: Open the dA Thumbs window from the ThumbTools menu, and use the "Sort by:" drop down. For example if you click "deviant" in the appearing drop down box, the thumbs will be ordered by author of the deviation.
