Self-portraits, the bane of any artist. They force you to look, really look at yourself, and draw what's actually there instead of what you'd like to see. They also force you to ask the tough questions of yourself, such as 'is my forehead really that big?' and 'am I overplucking my eyebrows?'

Anyway. Shockingly, I not only managed to paint this without using ultramarine blue or burnt sienna, but used only pthalo blue! I usually avoid pthalo because of its intense staining powers. So yay me for venturing (a little) out of my comfort zone! This turned out better than I feared, though I had a tough time getting a decent picture of it. If I'm able to do so in the future I'll re-upload it.
