I have another tree painting in progress which I plan to paint realistically (or as close as I ever get) so I wanted to try something different with this. Long story short, I was inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Louis Comfort Tiffany's stained glass works, and decided to see if I could recreate the look of stained glass in watercolor. This little experiment was actually pretty exciting to paint, and I like how it turned out (even though the photo doesn't do it justice). I'd first intended to use some of my old textile paints for the "lead" to achieve a more three-dimensional look, but alas, they were all dried up. So I made do with a mix of silver acrylics.

Metallics are tough to photograph, so I've posted an alternate photo of this painting (with the light reflecting off the bottom of the image, instead of the top like it is here) in my scraps folder if anyone's interested.
