Description
Finally I colored [link] digitally YAYZ!!!
That was my pencil drawing.
Zuko and Katara are from Avatar: The last airbender.
This was done in photoshop CS4.
Textures, Water and Fire done with brushes, so is the texture of the background.
I bet you all so gonna like this, I've been doing this for a long time since I never had time to finish it fudge school.

Zuko looks adorable here xD He's got a youthful little smile and the fullness of his cheek makes him look kinda young haha. Nice job!

I noticed that yesterday when I saw that I was like NOOOOO and then I thought meh I think he's better like that because I wanted for him to look like a 16 year old not an 18 year old or older.

For some reason the way they were holding their elements reminded me of instrumentals: Katara a harp and Zuko a saxophone. Beautifully drawn. What really impresses me is how you got their skin to glow like that: it really looks like skin! I like their expressions too! Zuko is looking smug for some reason and Katara is cool and calm. Though she looks like she's getting ready to splash Zuko in the face.

Wow you have good taste in observation haha I love how you thought the elements remind you of instruments, and the expressions oh they were so me because when I draw faces I draw them when I'm making a face of my own and I get that idea.
The skin I use one color skin tone and then I play with the dodge and burn tool, burn tool makes shadows while the dodge tool make highlights.
Hope this helps if you want to know anything about painting skin in Photoshop.

Ok now what do you mean specifically something looking like it's glowing, you mean the way how the skin tone glows just like in most of my drawings like this one?
Because I will gladly answer you that, ok if you look at your tools when working in photoshop you have to find tools that are dodge tool, burn tool, and sponge tool.
Dodge tool = Gives you more light in areas making it look like it's glowing if I were you I would play with that tool so you can learn more about it, if you use it you can see on the top there's a display with exposure and range. The exposure with more percentage can make a stronger glow while lower percentage gives you a less glow. Now for the range it says shadows, midtones, and highlights.
If you use Shadows you get to have glowing on colors that are dark colored like black, midtones give you that middle glow tone on ordinary colors, and highlights is a very strong range that makes it very "glowy" looking especially on very light colors like peach white etc.
Burn tool = It's the opposite of the dodge tool it gives you darkness in colors. The range and percentage is the same thing like the dodge tool the only difference is that it doesn't give you brightness only darkness.
Sponge tool = Only desaturates the color, making the color lose it's color.

A friend of mine who used to be a photographer told me these terms are based on real life photo development where you used to either shine the light brighter over the negative, thus 'burning it' or wave your hand in front thus 'dodging' the light that was exposing the film.
Your digital design teacher must have been a good teacher for you to remember all that.

Yes it's true oh believe me I had a test about it in my digital design class and the test is based on the tools you use in photoshop, I repeat it so much for practice so I can memorize it before the test, and I know it like from the back of my hand VERY helpful, well my class only uses photoshop CS4 so yea. I miss my teach though she was frikken cool, I can't believe she's the second teacher to curse in class whenever she felt like it, still she's amazing, funny and kind too.
