how detailed did you get? I got an AK-47 model with 308 parts. 983000 polys 1.3 million points all screws threaded. its never really complete. i started modelling it on the AK-47 I own and then as i upgraded the real gun i had to upgrade the model. been a project on and off now for 3 years but every part is mill-able or printable. its a sickness. Great Job, Id like to see it when completed and textured.

This was assigned I started any form of 3-d modeling, so my details were very minimal.
We had maybe 4 days to complete the project.
The center screw of the machine gun is not even really a screw, it's just a cylinder with extruded segments that were rotated at an angle. We were basically shown just to try to give the illusion of a correct model if we were pushed for time. (which we always are lol).
Dang 3 years!?
My teacher always says "You're never going to be truly done with a model."
Unfortunately I don't think I'll be returning to this machine gun any time soon.
Hard surface modeling isn't really my favorite thing, but who knows, maybe after I learn how to texture a model, I might come back and put one on here.
I think this model was only 47,400 polys in face mode, and 72,488 in Sub-D.

teacher is right. I made a USS Defiant model back in 1993 then remade it in 1996, 2001 and the last one maybe a year or 2 ago. it happens when you look through your folders for inspiration of previous work then you look at it and go " what was I thinking when i did this this way?" and thats when you decide to remodel it with the knowledge you have now. Infact the first Defiant model got me landed making models for paramount during the changeover from plastic to 3d models. I would model the ships at home send them off and they would texture them. then i would attempt to copy their textures as best i could and redistribute the models to sim groups. the Borg ship I made in 1995 had 1.8 million polys and would take 4 hours to render a still at 800x600 on my old DX4 100mhz pc i had back then.
and about the 3 years. I have had the real gun for 3 years and as soon as i got the real gun i started modeling the 3d gun and every time i would upgrade the gun id upgrade the model. so its a couple days here couple more days several months down the road. I working on a design for a silencer now that i will take the model to a machine shop and get milled so I had that model open all weekend long again.
I have been doing this since 1991. if you ever have any questions on how to achieve difficult shapes just hit me up more than likely i have made a similar shape at one time. im approacing maybe a 30,000 object library now, most id never show to anyone but I still look at the older stuff it reminds me how far ive come.
Keep up the good work and keep in touch.
