‘Well that’s just great!’ said Mark sarcastically. It was the end of the first semester at his final year of school, a happy time for many his age but not for Mark. His only chance for an above average holiday had just driven away and he grimaced as he realized there were weeks of holidays awaiting just him alone. He knew they left because he was ‘That boy’, which was not because anyone knew something about him, but rather that they knew nothing about him, not even his name and he couldn’t understand why. He was very much like people his age and for a gamer his fitness and height was surprisingly above par. He had wild and rampant, sandy, blond hair and he wore whatever he wanted forever crying for attention but it didn’t matter, nobody ever intentionally saw him face-to-face, in their eyes he wasn’t even there.  Mark questioned whether he resembled ‘them’ a little too much that he couldn’t stand out. Feeling insecure, he just wanted to go home and get the holidays over and done with. He kicked the ground in a huff and cursed under his breath, knowing that the best possibility of the previous situation was never going to happen; he just had to be ‘somebody’.

From the Front Gate at his school he turned left and began his journey home. He didn’t talk to anyone he passed, at this point in time they were but a blur. Mark was fast, effective and at a young age he was obviously … different. Although it didn’t really become evident until he went to grade school, where he preferred to read in a corner alone rather than socialize with the other kids. As he grew up he became more distant, even though he wanted to fit in. Throughout this period his parents eventually became desensitized to him and the issue, not knowing what he needed, due to the fact that they were led to believe in the modern age of technology that it was acceptable for kids to do so. Finally Mark arrived at the Corner shop that was in front of the residential complex where he lived and instinctively took a hard left down an alleyway.

It may have been because the day had been such an ‘off day’ even for Mark, or because he felt strangely inclined to stop, that he lowered his pace a bit and he returned his focus to reality. The ‘white’ walls of the alleyway were usually of no importance to him, but bar the dank, detached feeling and the stench of smoke and alcohol; Mark felt that there was something weird going on. From a distance he could see visual distortions near a divergent route section that he usually passed. At this time he questioned whether the lingering smoke had made him high, but knew he was perfectly fine. Not about to let his eyes get the better of him, he continued on towards it, but he soon realized that whatever it was it wasn’t an illusion.

It easily stood at about two and a half times his size with its width covering the gap between the walls of the passage. Whatever it was, it appeared to swirl inwardly like a whirlpool that was composed of various shades of dark, ardent colors. This definitely wasn’t what mark was expecting; it was illogical yet there it was, leading for Mark to question himself for a second time. Eventually he determined that he wasn’t under any ‘influences’, despite resolving that he would have to question his sanity if it were to happen for a third time. The mass was captivating and Mark couldn’t help but go up and touch it. Putting the fingers of his right hand in it, he was surprised to feel it move around them and was also astounded to discover that it had no temperature. ‘Wow, just Wow!’ Mark said, certainly at a loss for words. Under his hands, wisps of color floated away, dissipating in the air. A larger strand appeared and he attempted to grab it with the same hand, but the hand wouldn’t budge. He tried to move his hand again, but it was definitely held in place. Unexpectedly, he fell forward a bit, ‘Huh? I could have swo…’Mark was abruptly cut off as ‘he’ stumbled again, realizing that he was being pulled in. He instantaneously began to pull back as he attempted to counteract the pulling-force, but it was in vain. Weirdly enough, much like quicksand, the more he struggled the more the mass consumed him; in just seconds it managed to reach his elbow. At this point in time Mark considered screaming for help, but realized that no one would be there to help him here.

Putting his left hand on his right arm Mark began to tug against it even harder, but the swirling mass was too strong.  He lost his other hand as he was pulled towards it. Mark knew by now that enough mistakes had been made and that it was too late to escape. It had encroached upon him so fast, that it had left him without time to change his stance. With his feet too far behind him, he simply couldn’t maintain his balance and so fell into the mass; that then entirely encompassed him with its swirling colors and the darkness that it belonged to. Mark struggled to breathe as the being dragged him deep down into the darkness. He soon realized that the composition of the mass was very much like water with whatever air there was being so thick that he literally had to drink it in. Not only was the density affecting him, but the force exerted on Mark was so immense that his body rag dolled as he lost control of his body. He couldn’t keep up with it; his vision began to fade as the lack of oxygen was finally getting to him. As he passed out; he wondered if he was going to die here. Things like this have never happened before, have they?  Not long after that his eyes rolled into the back of his head; everything went black.
