Description
Pacific Rim is so awesome. not only is it a wonderful tribute to Japanese monster movies and mecha anime, its also the best "independence Day" remake. that ending was strikingly similar, just shy of giving them a "virus". its good fun so go see it...like several times cause i want sequel. GO RANGERS, GO!!!also ill be attending comic-con and ill be sitting in the table next to the hotdog stand...oh who am kidding. ill be probably liying dead tire on the floor (as usual). see you there XD

My friends went to see it and they complained because "the story was weak". I'm like "It's a monster movie! You don't watch it for the story, you watch it to see giant robots and giant monsters beat the crap out of each other!"
I, on the other hand, loved it and would love to see it again.

I know, right? Like monster movies don't exist to have good characters or good stories, they exist to see giant monsters. Now if they do have good characters and stories, that's wonderful, but it's not really something to judge a true "monster movie" on.

I think they just expect everything to conform to their liking instead of paying attention to the fact that there may be a reason that something is done a certain way xD

If you planned it out right, it wouldn't need to be mobile, and with overlapping firing arcs they could also cover large areas.

DolphinSilverwolf In reply to Jeffburjr [2013-07-20 11:06:27 +0000 UTC]
Remember, though, the Kaiju are mobile and adaptive. That's why the Jaegers worked as long as they did...you could move in and punch the snot out of them. Fixed firing positions can be outflanked. They'd make great augments for the Jaegers, though...and more effective than that "Anti Kaiju Wall."

Mounting the guns on a pivoting turret would allow a 360 degree, the jaegers should have been kept as an auxiliary weapon in case they kaiju got past the gun/ missile systems.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DolphinSilverwolf In reply to Jeffburjr [2013-07-21 10:03:45 +0000 UTC]
And the Kaiju did.
The Jaegers are a kind of combination of brute force and finesse. It's like scaling up a martial artist to feasibly kick some ass against the Kaiju. In the event the weapons fail...you still have hand-to-hand as an option.
Go Gipsy Danger. Hoorah.

Actually I expected them to have the second INES level 7 accident since Chernobyl in that Jaeger. The name "Cherno Alpha" kinda has this ominous ring to it. It was ironic that they DIDN'T have a catastrophic reactor explosion.
(And no, I'm not going to write just how it was ironic...that would be a spoiler.)
Stacker: "What did you two expect?! When you have a 'liquid cooled powerplant,' you're just asking for trouble when that liquid is four thousand liters of vodka!"

I get the feeling the other Jaegers used battery packs as apower source; it was noted that Gypsy Danger was nuclear as if it was the only one ever produced.
Them Ruskies and the Vodka....

DolphinSilverwolf In reply to Jeffburjr [2013-07-23 18:08:16 +0000 UTC]
Gipsy Danger wasn't the only nuclear powered Jaeger...just the one that survived.
Hey, you could weaponize the vodka. Vent coolant and get the Kaiju drunk...then wait for the hangover to kill it.

I enjoyed the movie, but yeah, I couldn't stop thinking about why they didn't try developing different and better weapons. Or, heck, why not figure out a way to keep the pilots at the base but still be able to send out the robot? That way, no soldiers would be lost, and the jaegers could have more defense(since there's no need to make a place for humans).

Waaaghtatic In reply to MintGreenMemories [2013-07-19 05:13:07 +0000 UTC]
The did. In the comics, the nuked the first Kaiju that appeared. They dropped numerous missiles and such on it, and it still caused way too much damage, as well as doing way too much collateral damage.
It says something about Kaiju when the most cost effective way of beating them is with giant robots.
