Description
Spring Wonders
So much color in the spring with new life everywhere.
A rarity seeing a pair of European Goldfinches nesting in a birdhouse, plus with a few Monarch Butterflies flying about! As a note Monarchs have been sited in the British Isles. It’s believed they were forced off course from a storm during their migration.
I’ve been working on this for some time so now it’s no longer spring. I was looking for Bluebirds, but very few stocks of them. I saw these European Goldfinches and decided to use them instead. Researching a little found that the female was colorful also, but with a few differences. The bird on the perch was a male so I did a little gender changing.
I modeled the birdhouse in Photoshop after one I built for a school shop project many many years ago. I hung it up in my Moms Lilac. I never had any Bluebirds nest in it, just some house wrens.
Funny when I get older think of younger times. Sure miss the sweet smell of Lilacs as they don’t grow here in the Philippines. I was raised in a small farming town in Michigan and most everyone had Lilacs so the whole town was strongly scented when in bloom.
Sorry Jenn I almost forgot to give you credit tooooooo for giving me some suggestions on this before posting

Thank you very much for your time for giving my piece a very fair critique. Was having a bit of trouble about sizing the butterflies to the size of the birds. Doing my research the European Goldfinch is a rather small bird 5” from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail. The Monarch and Black Swallowtail butterflies have a wingspan of 4”. In thinking if I overlay the butterflies over the bird on the roof and guessing an inch shorter. In placing wow much too big LOL so I went down in size even more. Looking at it now should have gone even smaller.
Thank you
Steve

Ok I like bewbs as much as the next fellow but this is such a refreshing change Ima toss this straight into my amazeballs collection.
I haven't seen a monarch here in my part of Canada in well over 20 years. Wooly bears as well. I remember them growing up, but they seem long gone from these parts.

Good Gods man, that's big enough to carry off small children! Really the only thing of major consequence we have here are mosquitos (they can carry encephalitis) and wasps. (who carry terror). The only kind of butterfly I've seen here the last few years is a small white one. I don't know what kind they are.

Here's the moth on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi3x7I… but the color is not right this one shows the right color www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8gsvD… They have the worlds largest bat wing span at 2 meters. There was one that roost in a fruit tree across the street it was huge! Also they have the smallest bat they'd eat all my bananas, there would be thousads of them! Also the world largest eagle! one day I came home and the kids were all excited saying daddy daddy come look. Leading me to the back door there stood a Philippine eagle past my waist in height moving back I could see it was tethered to our door knob. The kids were wanting me to buy it from their auntie for 200 pesos 4 dollars US. She had it for 7 years. Looked it up and found out it was an endangered species so I declined her offer.

Thank you very much Amber I almost didn’t post it till I found a replacement for my beloved 32” monitor may it rest in peace from our last big earthquake. Now I’m using a very old little bitty thing that has a compatible with Windows XP sticker on it LOL Was very worried about the colors being off so I had and take a look-see first Jenn made some suggestions that I tried to comply. Still don’t know what the colors truly looks like much different on my tv and the kids computer. As a note hard for me to read your little bitty font on this thing LOL
