Warning; spoiler alert below for Wings of Fire Legends: Darkstalker, and of a short passage depicting death."Now," Darkstalker leaned towards Arctic, his claws gouging into the wood of the stage. "Take your talons, rip open your stomach, and show us all what you're really like inside. Pour out your life on this stage."
It took a long time, and it was messy, and at the end of it, when Arctic was definitely dead, Darkstalker did not feel nearly as happy as he'd expected.

I wanted to draw this scene the way that it was shown to us in the book; very little focus on Arctic's demise, but rather on the effect it had on the characters. This was really the turning point in the story; where things became so bad that there was no going back.

I love Whiteout! Her design in this picture is better than the book. One criticism, not to be rude, but the Nightwings excluding whiteout look a tad bit like rainwings. Otherwise this art is absolutely amazing! The anatomy and proportions are perfect!

Thank you! Whiteout's a pretty dragon. This is a little old already - if I did it today I'd probably do a lot of it differently. I can definitely see the 'rainwingness' (hah, what a word) in Darkstalker. He's got a long, thin face and really wispy horns.

My personal design is a bit different. The eyes are actually very light blue, just the yellow lighting makes it hard to see.
