Description Rhino.3dsmax: My most precise and good looking project up to that date. I'm really proud of it even if there's some errors:

1. Power LED is on, but the switch is set to Off
2. The Screen is emmiting light
3. The Nintendo logo should be at an 180 degree angle
4. The only cartdridge was too dark, and edited in PhotoShop (it's visible)
5. The top of a real SP is curved, mine is perfectly flat.

I've corrected them in 3ds max (except the curve), but I don't feel like waiting an another day to render it.

This is definately an A-class model. The surfacing is very good. I recently tried to make a DS Lite model but the translucent coating gave me serious problems. I'd love to see more like this, perhaps older gameboys?

Well, in therory it should be extremely easy to get. You "just" need to model both shell's parts (the translucent one and the white/black or blue plastic) and create simple material. The transluscent one a fresnel reflection (the kind that vary depending on the angle you are looking at a surface) and a fully refractive surface should do the trick. For the color plastic even the simplest shader should do the trick.

Of course, in practice it will take hours of (boring) tweaking. I think that's the main reason I gave up to create fully realistic render -- time!!

I had a hard time getting the model to fit together just right, I probably need some more practice (lots of time fiddling) with it. Now that I think about it, there is another method I want to try using now... I was also thinking about creating a texture for the game screen showing an actual game, maybe even go as far as pre-rendering each pixel element.

Dunno, maybe because I don't have the time to be active in the communauty.

I also don't have the time to work on any project also... :/

Pretty damn real. A little too real. Great work! I got a 2D render of the SP if you want to check that out. Again, great work!

Well I don't own a gameboy advance, so I wouldn't have noticed anyway. At first glance I thought it was a photo. To be honest, I think you're lying and it is actually a photo (kidding, it's great work)

26 hours to render on a 3.0 ghz, 2gb ram, cuz of how you did the shadows and depth of field, WOW!!! BUT definitly worth the wait good job exellent

mental ray? and how long did this take you to render?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

j-martin In reply to GlazedHuman [2005-05-14 15:35:56 +0000 UTC]

I've used "Vray" and it took 26hours to render on my P4C 3.0 GHz with 2GB of RAM. The main reason for the slow render time is the use of Depth of Field, Blurry reflexions (I was force to use them to get the shader I wanted), HDRI and Global Illumination : 4 things that slow down a render like you can't imagine...

I actualy tried in christmas vacantion, but I gave up after realising that making a "perfect copy" of that curvy thing (it's not that bad thought) would be kinda hard.

I'll try later...

j-martin In reply to lycorda [2004-10-21 23:37:45 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, the scenes is currently on my "good" PC and it's motherboard was sent to RMA. I'll try to post the mat file ASAP.

It's a Vray Material not so complex, but which took a lot of tuning for the color, reflexion color and glossiness and the bump mapping (which I consider switching the map to reflection since it doesn't really look like it does in the real life).

Thanks to all of you for your comments.
