Leone goes north because that is the direction the storm flows. It already knows where they're heading.

It rains in short bursts, never fully unburdening itself from the great weight. The rest is meant to rejoin the ocean, the mother of all water. It catches two meals at a creek, as it has for almost a year. It feels like too much and it can barely keep the food down but Leone eats what there is, alone. It keeps the turtle's shell to gather water, an old habit from dryer lands that might come in handy now when it feels too heavy to move.

It feels feverish, too hot and too cold and too tired to carry on.

Nothing seems to heal anymore, no matter the amount of cobweb and bugbane leaves it plasters on its wounds. Leone thinks it only endures because the storm endures, that when they reach the sea again they might both sigh a half-satisfied, final breath and let go of all that they are.

The clouds give no confirmation when it asks.

It hopes recovery can be a quiet lesson, then.
