Leone seeks refuge in the mountains where it weighs the options available moving forward. Here it knows best how to to listen for the footsteps of a stranger as well as conceal itself from those who might do harm to the fragile young life now traveling at its side. For all the failings of its birthplace, Leone still finds itself most comfortable among cold stones. So many parts of it have been broken, so why does such a meaningless comfort borne of mere familiarity remain whole?

For the first time in a long time it begins to idly think on the question of what 'home' even means.
It knows it is not a place or a bloodline. Nor some pre-destined thing someone is beholden to. Leone claims no honor, kept no laurels, left no lifeline anchoring it to kin or homeland. It knows instead a home can be something you carry, someone you walk with, something that changes like the moon or the tide or the hobbled together camp you rest your head in at the end of the day.

It looks at Kit for a brief moment as she kicks and churns in her sleep in that way that children do, then quickly averts its gaze back to watching the hidden trail to their temporary nest. She is... endearing. Clever as a devil, always finding something new to ask; there are only so many days between now and the one when she reaches the end of Leone's own limited knowledge of the world. Affectionate, more than any of its children or even its sister had ever been.

She is entirely dependent, reliant even, on Leone. Katherine even already smells like it, which is to say she smells like almost nothing at all. All sweet frost and pale ash from always tucking herself against it the way she's tucked against it right now.

But above all else she is terrifying, because Leone doesn't know if it can be a home after spending so long breaking them.

Leone's timeline is going to be a little all over the place for the wrap-up of winter so please hang with me as things roll out.

I'm still taking a bit of a break from more serious art but needed to try out a new brush so bad before I actually went crazy. I don't know how to tell a story in a short way (as anyone who has read rps involving me can probably tell you) so to summarize the brush I used to paint this was made by Speckled, to whom I basically owe my life.
