this is Mauroko, which literally translates to "demon scales".
Basically Mauroko is a yokai that needs to eat kids for food but cant bring themself to do it. They just hang around in alleys in Tokyo and just tries their best.
They get mistaken a lot for an alley cat, considering they eat dead stuff (dead fish is a very common dinner) just to survive. gosh I would hate to stumble on this fella in an alleyway, they are definitely NOT a kitty.
Their front paws are similar to squirrel paws, being very dexterous and able to grab and grip things like little hands. The back paws are like an opossums, using the little nook between the 'thumb' and the 'palm' to balance on telephone wires and such.
The two dewclaw like digits have the sharpest claws, since they are raised off of the ground.
