Description Artwork copyright belongs to me Jack Eaves A.K.A Glaudarien. Character Design Copyright belongs to Tetsuya Nomura of Square Enix

A fairly quick painting of Auron from FFX requested by my friend Jim. I've always wanted to draw Auron as he's another one of those badass iconic characters, for me atleast.

This was originnaly just a sketch for a mate of mine as he jokingly told me to draw him, however i was really pleased with how the sketch turned out and couldn't help but finish it off.

There are some proportional issues however i don't think they are too obvious so i won't correct them, atleast not yet.

Hope you like him.

Auron is just such an epic character! Loved the things he would say in battle too like in this piece. One of my personal fav's was "This...is for the fallen!"

Yoo this is sick bro! Flippin hell you work fast man, the painting is quality here, blending done really well it looks like its been done traditionally with acrylics

You should get one of them stock images for a background t replace this grey and this could well be a wallpaper

JackEavesArt In reply to najmulosmani [2010-06-30 11:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Cheers man! glad you think so, im trying to aim for a bit of a traditional texture at the moment, since i think that when you aim for a digital look you have to have amazing blending skills to pull it off, otherwise it can look too fake.

Ah i didn't think of that, it could be worth a try

^^

Anyway, I tried art rage and it doesn't have sensitivity but when you paint over it twice without letting the pen go, it adds paints unlike photoshop. Is there a setting on photoshop to make it more real as if you;re really painting?

JackEavesArt In reply to dulioil [2010-06-27 14:02:47 +0000 UTC]

I don't think so, but as far as i know 'Painter' is the best software to simulate realistic painting, its not free but there are trials available.

wow this is looking good i think though his wrist area is a bit dodgy its like his muscle cuts off a bit to soon, it looks too arched n dips a bit, i like the colours used though the tones are good n saturation

hmm yeh i wasn't really sure about the wrist as i was drawing it, but i notice it more now so i might go back and change it if i get time

Thanks! I'm really starting to get comfortable with photoshop again, i just wanna get this sorta level of painting with my original stuff lol i find it 10x easier when i do a fanart

jadey-babey In reply to JackEavesArt [2010-06-23 21:23:23 +0000 UTC]

np
lol is that cause you have a ref for proportion etc?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackEavesArt In reply to jadey-babey [2010-06-23 22:07:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeh mostly, because i have something to compare the proportions n lighting n things too, but i guess i should just use some stock photos as reference for my original stuff.... that could be helpful lol XD

Thanks man i appreciate it! Really getting the hang of the different blending techniques using the colour picker. I just wish i could get this quality on an original piece, hopefully soon enough i will.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DCArtStudios In reply to JackEavesArt [2010-06-23 12:27:36 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, it is all a matter of getting a better understanding of the lighting and our subjects, so we can go nuts with all the detail we're looking for.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackEavesArt In reply to DCArtStudios [2010-06-23 12:28:59 +0000 UTC]

Yup. Gotta get comfortable with the basics before interpreting it in a diffferent and original way, which i think is where most of us go wrong - tying to skip the basics and jumping right into details and original pieces.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DCArtStudios In reply to JackEavesArt [2010-06-23 13:19:55 +0000 UTC]

I have a huge problem with that when I am just drawing. Never seem to do a light outline of a subject then fill in detail. I start with the eyes, straight for the detail and build the rest from there detailing as I go. Horrible way to do it, throughs the perspective off a bit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackEavesArt In reply to DCArtStudios [2010-06-23 17:32:15 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, i've only recently started to start with light proportional outlines before going into detail, its so hard to get out of bad habbits though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DCArtStudios In reply to JackEavesArt [2010-06-23 21:26:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, one day I will try doing it that way. I hope it is soon, because I would like to really start getting some stuff out there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackEavesArt In reply to DCArtStudios [2010-06-23 22:30:50 +0000 UTC]

It really does help to create a much stronger piece, I usually start off with a quick anatomy / pose sketch first to make sure that all the proportions and pose are correct and look good, then i will start to flesh it out.
