You hardened him? Than why did he dump you?
If you toughen him up with the Goldanna quest you should be able to make him keep you as a mistress. It still require that you pick the right line however when he's about to dump you. "Nobody can force a king to do anything", will make him come back to you.
I did that with my Cousland rogue Evelyn. In the end she was Alistair's mistress but left to go with Zevran. She got them both, just as I wanted

Why did you make him king in the first place when you know he was going to die!
So you... pretty much killed him off in the end because he didn't want to make you queen? Or because you didn't know that you had to be a human noble to become a queen?

Eve *never* made him king! She even let him duel Loghain because it's what he wanted so I was SHOCKED when he suddenly declared himself king because I didn't know 'hardening' him would make him decide to become king on his own T_T
Eve wanted to marry him, NOT be his mistress (believe me, it hit too close to home so I don't want any of that) but since he made himself king he dumped her 
I just made the wrong choices. I loved Alistair actually, which is why I never romanced him again after that happened. It HURT that much! XD
Please allow me to clarify that it's NEVER my intention to offend you in any way. I was not aware that you were expecting happy tiemz specifically between Alistair and my warden Eve. I apologize for any misunderstanding

My fiance explained it to me this way: since he's been told "Everyone's out for themselves" Alistair believes it's up to him to do what's good for Ferelden, so he made himself king against his personal wishes because he believes Ferelden needs him, not Anora
It was too late for me to reload all the way back to Goldanna (we faced her pretty early in the game) and redo all the other quests I already finished.
*sigh* I was REALLY hoping to get the same ending as Aimo's Sorsha
I hardly touched the game after that... so my (non-gamer!) sister tried it out and I walked her Cousland through. Needless to say she enjoyed becoming queen XD

Well I had three
One was with my male Cousland! I let him romance Morrigan, and when I was at the landsmeet, had him kill Loghain
The second was with a female character: A human mage
The third was a dwarf noble who romanced Leliana, and pretty much was more coldblooded!
That's about it I think XD

Apparently you have to kill Loghain to prevent her from executing Alistair for some reason
Just go and reload right before it, and make sure you:
A: Kill Loghain yourself
B: Appoint Anora as queen: If this goes right Alistair should stick with you
Give it a try
