Description
I heard once that a good way to gain skill with inking is to ink over the completed works of professionals. I picked a piece by Mark Morales who was nice enough to let me post my results. This exercise did challenge me to strengthen my line control, but did not teach me a whole lot on how to ink. Anyways, check it out and let me know what you think. You can see the original on Mark Morales Page.

Here is a copy to the inks I got it from

That piece was from earlier when I inked over completed inks to just get some practice in.
I would credit the original art to Mark Morales & Jim Cheung
Good job.

If you ever get board you could try the Sabertooth or Man-Thing inks I have up. They were drawn by comic partners of mine and we would love to have them colored some day.
If your ever board. Otherwise, keep up the good work man.

Eeesssh! Who gave you that advice, I don't want to be rude but I think thats a bad idea and I'll tell why.
The best thing you can do for yourself not just as an inker but as an artist in general is to establish your own identity. Inking over another inkers work will never do that for you. Think of inking as an extension of your signature. Usually when you sign something you give your signature it's own type of flair, now you may see signatures that have that familiar flair but know two are alike. This is what sets us apart as artist. Your style as an inker/artist is a combination of what you are capable of or comfortable with and simply what you aren't so hot at (most artist hate their own work).
I think it's okay to look at inkers who's works you enjoy for influence but stay away from inking over inks. Remember the inks are just the closest representation of the pencillers vision so by inking over inks you're pushing yourself further away.
sorry for the rant but I hope it's helpful information.

The person who gave me that advice was Klaus Janson. This was one simple exercise that I tried at his advice to work on my line control. I'm well aware that I will not be able to develop my own style by performing such a exercise.

Thanks, but I can't take much of the credit. Mark Morales did most of the work.
