Update- 26/2/16. Wow, just had another look at this drawing after a while and can't believe how many faves it has, by far my most popular work, thank you so much guys!
I absolutely love HTTYD, i recently got my copy of the second on DVD so i thought i'd celebrate by drawing adorable Toothless. I didn't know quite how tricky he is to draw until i started, but that skin/scale texture is crazy. Hope you enjoy.
Drawn on paper using 2H, 4B, 5B, 6B, 8B pencils and black fine-liner, roughly 5 hours work, cleanup done in Gimp.

I watched some of the series. Why is Toothless called "Toothless"? Is it just because it has no giant teeth?

It's because he can retract his Teeth. When Hiccup first meets him and offers Toothless a Fish, he see's him open his Mouth ready to take it, he appears to have no Teeth, just gums, Hiccup then remarks "Huh, Toothless?" However as soon as he is about to snatch the Fish his pointy Teeth come down from his Gums quickly. Hence the Nickname. You see this happen in the First Movie, well worth watching
