Description
This is the promotional image I created for a collaborative event I am running in September 2021. I wanted to create a room that actually represented disability correctly and I had this idea for a room filled with items that disabled people use. These are all items that you can find in a disabled person's house; many of them are in my own house and some lovely people provided me with reference photos. It's not a complete snapshot of every item that every disabled person uses but it is more accurate than most disability representations in pop culture.I created it in Photoshop Elements. The majority of it is created from scratch using reference photos by myself. A few royalty free clipart images were used in places (the candle on the bookshelf, the pattern for the curtains and the details on the hub of the wheelchair). Fonts used are Google Fonts
Handlee and Love Ya Like a Sister .
GeekDis is a collaborative event for members of the disability community to talk about disability representation in pop culture. That's a bit of a mouthful, isn't it? In short, using whatever medium you prefer (blogging, social media, youtube, etc.) I'm inviting you to talk about disability representation in pop culture during September 2021.
