Darn I hate romanjii....It gets me so confused sometimes since I somehow am slow to recongize words I should know. I can't remember what "osumaideshitaka" is asking....

one of the ways of asking 'where did you live?'. yeah, my japanese is a bit scratchy seeing as i haven't been doing much practice since i got back a couple of years ago. really should keep it up...lol ashikaga was about 2 hours north of tokyo...my school was in the middle of a bunch of rice fields! lol

My homestay was only 2 weeks long and it was at Chino, its a city near Suwa in Nagano Prefecture.
I am taking Japanese this semester but still I forget some phrases.

two weeks? i must have misread one of your previous romanjii posts...I could have sworn it said 8 months. or did you leave your homestay after a while?

Nope 2 weeks long. It was a sister cities exchange and had to be held through their summer break.

ah, k. cool, yeah, you should try and go for a longer time, I did mine as a year 13 program, so I had graduated here, and then got to go back to study at a school over there for 10 months, 'cept that none of the tests mattered, I could focus purely on learning the language and friends etc.

I am either going to go in a year in a half for a semester at a university in Tokyo or I will wait until I gruadate and go do the JET program for...2 or 3 years.

hmm, see, thats difficult. the semester at uni would be better, I reckon, cause JET sucks balls. hardly any breaks, stuck in the same place and forced to work...lol
what I've been informed is the best way, is to get into a specific post-grad field of study, and then apply to a university over there in that specific field. they'll take you up and you'll spend more then a semester with them, most prob.

yeah, and they're more likely to be nice towards you...I mean, with Jet, they get you accomodation etc, but they make you work! lol...Imagine that!

Yeah but the plus is with that I know I can get placed in the city I staied at and so I would know a lot of the people there....and I would get paid. Since I have to get a job anyway I figure that it would be great to live in a place that is beautiful and do what I would most likely do anyway...work with kids. (I work at a Day Camp during the summer)

ah ok. yeah, i suppose it wouldn't be too bad. for me personally I've already spent 10 months in a japanese highschool as a student of 17-18, and the next time i go back I'll be 21... So I want to experience that side of Japan, 20+ live band events, going out to restuarants and drinking without worrying about being caught...lol not that my age stopped me from drinking and whatnot when i went over last time, but yeah. a pretty decent homestay family is all you need to get.

heheh, yeah, i had to spend most of the time at school, but every so often i went down with my host sister to visit my host cousins in tokyo and ended up going to restaurants and everywhere and drinking, usually when one of them got a bonus...lol and saying 'never mind school tomorrow, I will catch a train back whenever i wake up...lol this is of course a 2 hour train ride...lol heheh it was all pretty fun, it'll be interesting to see what I'll get up to now that I'm actually of legal age... while I'm over there I'll prob be filming a doco of some sort, maybe on a music scene, or who knows, but i may be able to get funding for that, so yeah...options options options...

hahah, yeah, I'm planning on finish my current uni degree over there, and one of my last units can be a this independent 'research project'. I know one person who did a documentary on a band by going on tour with them for this unit, so i thought, why the hell shouldn't i be able to do a doco on something like that in Japan, instead of here? so yeah, my first thought was a doco on the ska music scene in Japan, traveling around etc, but then i thought maybe just hook up with a ska band over there and travel around with them...not sure. but it'll be fun no matter what i end up deciding on!
