That night he dreamed he was running across the vast expanse that lay between Vale and Vektren. He was free, unbent, and unbroken. The breeze was dancing with the sun on his fur, and for the first time in so long her felt... happy. Had that been a smile upon his maw? He rarely smiled anymore. The only thing worthy of a smile in this hell was making them angry. But it was always a fake smile--he would never admit it to himself much less another living soul. Nothing brought him true happiness. And when he awoke, he realized that he was not free, he was bent and broken beneath Senisteros' paws. Though he did not yet know his name.
