Description
Taken this week at the Hatchie after emerging from the swamps there on the refuge. In the interest of full disclosure I did remove a lamp pole from the image so I guess that this is technically a photo manipulation.
Fashion note: I was attired in cotton overalls, hip boots with a camouflage net carried around my neck. I use a short strap in addition to the camera neck strap so that I can hang the camera by the tripod mount when I need to use both hands to get through the thick areas.
When I get to a likely spot I cover myself with the camo net and wait for the animals to forget that Iām there. It is also handy for keeping the bugs out while Iām waiting.

Thank you Richard
This lens has been a real pleasure to use. It's big enough to reach out but small enough to carry around.

The snakes are not too big and they won't eat us but some, like the western cottonmouth, are very poisonous and can be quick to bite if they feel threatened. I move slowly and make noise so that the snakes can get away without a confrontation.

Damn you are a serious shooter.. When it gets that hot.
I don't do much field work. Getting too old for that much sweating etc.

Holy cow, look at that lens!
Don't you get hot in all that gear John?

JAHarrell In reply to Kelly63 [2009-06-12 12:14:37 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah! Way too hot in fact with temps in the nineties and near 100% humidity I came dangerously close to becoming a heat casualty. Any exposed skin in that area does get chewed upon by the local insects so coveralls are the appropriate wardrobe choice so I bought a much lighter weight coverall> [link] which has made a big difference.

Wow! You be careful John!
I can sympathize with you over the bugs too, we have black flies and they are really bad this year.
We've been freezing here, no kidding, I had to put a fire on a few times last week. It's supposed to warm up to 25c by Tuesday. I can't wait to complain about the heat again!

Thank you
I may try a lighter weight coverall next time that one was way too hot.
