Description
Circa 1805 RT, A Shird Handler specialist in Mabuting. This soldier is a member of the infamous Deep Recon Patrol Division of the 2nd East Army of the Shirudan Grand Shogunate Army. The jungles of Mabuting were difficult for the motorised units of the shirudan army to operate in. To rectify this, General Ito Makarasu, commander of the 2nd East Army proposed and created the Deep Recon Patrol Division to find pathways through the jungle to help the main units efforts to conquer Enshaw.
Shird Handlers usually com from the priesthood and monks from the shirudan mainland. Shirds are smart carnivorous birds native to Norudo. Generations of them have been tamed by early shirudans and have become tough but loyal pets by the 1700s RT. These birds were deployed in the hundreds during the great war. They served as message carriers or unorthodox skirmishers.
Shirds have a significant role in shirudan culture. It is said that shirds used to be much larger and ruled over the island of Norudo. The first leader of the ancestors of current shirudan clans was said to have defeated a shird the size of a small aircraft. That victory was taken as a sign that the ancient shirudans now control the island. But that was simply not the case. Even today, wild shirds have the ability to attack isolated children. Monastic sects maintain that shirds remind them of the nature of life in Unos Solum. Thus the shirudo will often practice a form of sky burial. A monk will oversee the human corpse as flocks of shirds will consume it.
One thing about the old story is true however. The Shogun's family tamed a flock of shirds long ago. Throughout the generations, each shogun would always have a shird companion. There us a curious ritual that occurs upon the death of the Dai-Shogun. The deceased Dai-Shogun's corpse would be eaten by the his shird companion. The shird would then be killed and the next Dai-Shogun will consume a bit of it. There is something about the cycle of life there but I am not sure myself. The members of the Red Healers had always voiced concern over this practice.
I was pretty sure this was a part of the several bunch of sketcho compos but i cant find it. hahah. I'm losing track of them.
