Description
This was taken in Pedernales State Park in Texas. This is the larger of the Twin Falls. Not too long ago, this area was open to visitors, but due to high traffic, the area has been closed and can only be viewed from an observation deck. I plan to return with a tripod and ask for special permission to go down to water level and get some better pictures...Oh yeah...1 second exposure, handheld... >.o

Why did you need a one second exposure? It looks bright enough for a faster shutter speed. Makes the water look very interesting though, almost as if it has been added in later, but I know you haven't (you haven't, right? )

That's what the one second exposure was for. I stopped it down to about f/32 and set a 1 second exposure to capture the movement of the water. Sure, I could've done a 1/100 exposure at f/8 or something, but then I wouldn't have captured the movement. You'd just see the water like it was frozen in place.

Yeah, that would be what I'd gone for. I would have never thought of a long exposure to mkae the water look that way. That's such an high f-stop! My camera only goes to 22 I think....

Great composition! Great job w/ the longer exposure -definitely adds a more fluid feel to the water

You have to hike quite a bit to find this place, but it's definitely worth it.

Thanks! It's a really nice place. Not too far away either. It's barely an hour from me, so that'd make it maybe an hour and a half or two hours from you. I'm planning on going back soon, maybe even taking a group.

That is really a great picture. Is it the second long exposure that gives the water its softness? Good luck getting the special permission to go down to the water, that would be amazing!

That's exactly what does it. The longer the exposure, the more fluid it will look, but, you risk getting other things blurry like leaves in the wind, or vibrations from people walking around depending on the surface you're on.

That's the beauty of a long exposure time.
