You should try sticking the lens on the other end for a sort of redneck/faux macro or something. But you probably have already done that and found out that it doesn't really do anything.

One end magnifies the image but makes it kind of blurred (like in this picture), and the other end makes it a really small image in a circle, surrounded by black.
