Description

After the rebellion at Nassau, the relatively unsettled Bahamas island were included s US territory at the end of the revolution, at the time a minor concession.  The thinly populated islands were combined into Georgia as part of the reorganization of overlapping state claims on thinly settled western land, in the style of the Northwest Ordinance.  Southern planters and yeoman farmers would move to the islands the plant sugar and citrus groves, and Nassau remained a local trade hub.  In the 20th century, tourism grows to an economic pillar and population swells with new arrivals to staff this industry.  The culturally southern population is steadily outnumbered, only encouraging the distinct identity the islands already had.  Soon, with the population swelled the point statehood could be feasible, calls for separation from Georgi grew; these were initially rebuffed until the socially liberal Bahamian voters helped push a Republican into the governorship in a close race.  Before this, separation was likely to pass in Washington, but not Milledgeville GA- after the fateful 1990 election the Georgian establishment was more afraid of losing their own personal power than anything else, so the still Democratic-controlled legislature approved secession of the 3 Bahamian counties in 1991.

While the IRL Bahamian flag and coat of arms were created after the point of divergence, I retained the colors and the swordfish of the Bahamas coat of arms
