Three days into 2023 and I already hate this year.

I remember first being exposed to Ken Block and Gymkhana from what I recall, when Gymkhana 5 was on the news, but I never really gotten into Ken Block and Gymkhana until around Gymkhana Six, when he started collaborating with Need for Speed, which then got me to check out all the other Gymkhana videos. Then Gymkhana Seven came out, when the Hoonicorn first debuted, and I was absolutely hooked.

The Hoonicorn looked like the most mental thing I had ever seen at the time, and it became a huge inspiration for me, and seeing this absolute madlad shred that thing across Los Angeles in Gymkhana Seven, it was like the closest thing to a real life Hot Wheels race, and I was giddy as all hell to actually drive the thing in Need for Speed 2015. I never got into the DiRT games back in the day, which I do kind of hate myself nowadays for it. Maybe it was because I didn't have a PS3 at the time? I don't know. But I do hope that one day the old DiRT games get re-released, especially DiRT Showdown. Even now, I replay that reveal trailer from time to time and get hyped.

Not to mention seeing all the other mad machines Ken had made for him to tear up, such as the Hoonitruck and the Hoonitron. I was always excited to see what new monstrosity Ken was building for his next Gymkhana. Seeing them granted me with tons of inspiration and ideas for whatever mad vehicular designs I could sketch up.

It still feels unreal to me, just days into the new year, returning home and finding out that Ken Block, a man who has pulled off all these insane tire-shredding videos with these absolutely mental builds, is just...gone. Died doing the thing he loved.

Thank you Ken Block, for being a huge inspiration for me.
