Description Our newest partial, Houdini the Eastern Screech Owl. I did a good amount of detail airbrushing on this guy, especially on the wings and tail (as you can see). The feet are also different than our other owl feet, since this species doesn't have feet covered in fur. So it was fun trying to figure out a way to imply the scaled look without getting crazy about it. Our suits are toony, afterall.

Houdini's flying home to his new owner today, and should be debuting at a new year's eve event.

Can i ask how you managed to sew the sections on the wings? I need to do something similar for a craft project and it looks like you've nailed it

I put the whole thing through the sewing machine.

Wow, really? Guess I just need to get a tougher sewing machine

You can get thicker needles to go in the machine. My machine is a cheap Brother from Walmart. It's all about the needles.

Those feathers are beautiful! Did you figure out how to make them yourselves? Or is there a tutorial? *is planning to make a bird partial later on*

Wonderful suit though, I love the pattern!

I came up with the design on my own. Its probably been done before, though. There are bound to be tutorials out there for similar wings.

It's the same method other makers use to make 3D eyes. There are tutorials available online.

First Look: Hey, that's cute.

Second Look:...wh-...what's he doing with his head?

Also, first time I've seen patterned fur used on a suit that looks good, especially on the head.

Yeah, patterned fur can be used as long as you do it right. We've used it on two owls so far, and it works well for them. Thanks!

I really like the way you did the arms and feet. The eyes on the head seems rather odd to me. Then again, they are staring at me straight to my soul. Really good job, really jealous. How did you do it? Do you have a pattern?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JakeJynx In reply to MoonSilver21 [2012-12-28 19:59:34 +0000 UTC]

Odd how?

A pattern for the eyes? We used the same method others have used for 3D eyes. You can find tutorials online for it.

Thanks!

MoonSilver21 In reply to JakeJynx [2013-01-01 12:32:16 +0000 UTC]

I don't know how or why they are odd to me. I never really liked eyes to begin with. Been frightful of them really.

What I loved the most was the wings down to the tail and feet. They were the best.
