Description

Oh Jesus. Jaspar has two hands! I swear, EVERY TIME I draw him I forget that he has a hook and I have to go back and redraw his left hand. This time I actually made it all the way through drawing, coloring and lettering the page before I noticed. And worse, he's USING his hand all through the page! UGH!  So I've decided that I'm going to leave it as is for now. I may fix it in the future. Possibly he's just drunk enough that he's imagining that he has two hands again.

I have to ask: how do they dare serve that stuff when the crabs are this crusty in Yeld?

In all honesty, too drunk seems like a pretty plausible excuse for thinking you have extra hands.

I'll have what he's having. Holy crap I didn't even notice the hand until I read the description.

UGH...way too close WAY TOO CLOSE crusty crab....Getting that close behind someone and in their blind spot is a good way to get an empty whiskey bottle broken upside the face.

Only question is what kinda fight music would start playin'?  Irish? Scottish?

I feel like Jasper has a bit of a Captain Jack Sparrow vibe going.

Probably thats unavoidable. Can you have a non-serious pirate anymore that isn't influenced by Sparrow? pProbably, but it must be hard. The main influence for Jaspar is Cerebus.

Maybe he has one of those fancy Yeld wooden hands, made of the finest mahogany money can buy and enchanted to grant a semblance of life?

When he has to put the glass down, just show him leaving the fake hand behind, still attached to the glass

Ha! Yeah, I could see that.

I don't see this ending well.

Also, LOL, maybe he like to have the hook over his hand just to look tougher?

The couple of times he's using his left hand, he's using it to handle a drinking glass.  Often, glasses like that are tapered, wider at the top than at the bottom.  If his hook happens to be exactly the right size (and who's to say that he didn't choose the size for this purpose?) then he could put the glass into the loop of the hook and hold the glass that way.

Feel free to use my idea if it means less work to do to change the strip.

It is a pretty huge hook. So he'd have to be drinking a Cerebus style brandy glass full of whiskey.

Replaceable hooks in different sizes?  It's possible (although expensive, I guess).

I was thinking the same thing when I read Jake's description.

I love the "He's so drunk, he's imagining he's got his hand back again" excuse. Especially makes sense if he wasn't fond of the idea of dealing with Crust.

"Crap, I don't want to deal with Crust, but I really need a ship, and I know his crew is a bunch of wimps."
*looooots of alcohol later*
"Okay, I can put up with Crust. No sweat. Oh, cool, I got my hand back! Why is there a pink elephant in the corner over there?"

It's canon now. Thanks!

I suspect Jaspar probably only uses a hook to look frightening (and maybe for some practical reasons) where he really has no major hand injury whatsoever.

Well, his losing his hand was actually shown in the comic a while back when they attacked the prince's castle.
