Your style is more into 'Pop Art' 60s style.
What I can say is try using more of a wide range of colors, specially if you're trying to achieve the style of those old 50s and 60s posters.
The red border actually takes your eyes away from the middle of the image to the sides, which is not complimentary to the whole design. Try and make the viewer look where you want to using color combinations. Study what colors are hot and cool to the eyes.
