Illyana Rasputin is a mutant sorceress linked to the demonic realm of Limbo, known in Earth's superhero community as Magik. As the younger sister of Colossus, she was tragically abducted to Limbo by the malignant Belasco when she was under the X-Men's custody. In the few seconds that passed on Earth, Rasputin aged years in Limbo, a process which caused her to master different dark arts. Following the manifestation of her mutant teleporting abilities, she was able to return to the X-Men[18] and ultimately joined Professor Xavier's younger protégés, the New Mutants.

Alongside the New Mutants, Magik experienced unimaginable adventures and difficult moments, with her usually mischievous attitude constantly masking a deeply traumatized and lonely soul. Her tenure was cut short when she sacrificed herself to prevent Limbo from corrupting Earth. Having reborn as the child she was before being kidnapped, Rasputin recovered her innocence. Tragically, she was infected by the deadly Legacy Virus and passed away soon later. Belasco's machinations revided Rasputin without a soul. Taking control over Limbo, she obsessively manipulated her former allies in the New Mutants to recover her lost soul. This ordeal reapproximated her to the X-Men and she eventually joined their ranks as a relevant agent. Concurrently, Magik also became closer to the magic superheroic community after being mentored by Doctor Strange.

More recently, Magik has found a passion for teaching, having been appointed one of the Great Captains of Krakoa, where she's in charge of training and leading mutants to battle. In addition to that, she also teaches magic at Strange Academy.
