Scrooge McDuck knew how to make powerful enemies. The fight against the evil sorcerer, who was targeting his collected magical artifacts, had been long and relentless. The area resembled a warlike battlefield. Loose debris lay everywhere, but finally the Ducks could win.
Not least because Magica de Spell had fought on Scrooge’s side. After all, she was the only one who stood to defeat the tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smartie!
At least, she convinced herself that this was the only reason for her help. With a little smile she watched everyone cheering and celebrating, but her gaze was on a man in particular. Scrooge mcDuck himself. Her facial expression became almost tender as she watched him and a light red colored her cheeks. One day she would be brave enough to stand by her feelings for the bold drake.
In all the hustle and bustle she was the only one who noticed that the ground under Scrooge’s feet broke away. Shocked by the relentless attacks that had descended on it. Alarmed, she ran towards him with an outcry. “Scrooge! Watch out!” In the last second she managed to push the man out of the danger zone when a piece of the rocks beneath her broke away.
Scrooge’s mind operated as fast as his body. Without even a second’s hesitation he jumped after her. He managed to grab her and at the same time anchor his cane in a rock niche. A stabbing pain ran through his arm as the force of the impact dislocated his shoulder. But he didn’t show the pain and held Magica a little tighter.
“Scrooge… your arm…” She began hesitantly. But he only looked tenderly into her eyes. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you go. Never…” Then his face became more serious again. “Hold on tight.”
From the depth a strong draught of air pushed up again and again which made it difficult to keep the balance on the rock. Scrooge thought it would rip his arm out, but even if it would. He would never let her go. Not her, the woman he secretly loved for many years. Although even his greatest courage was not enough to confess his feelings to her.
Loud cries were audible from the edge of the cliff, help was on the way. For a moment they looked at each other in silence and the pain was forgotten when he gazed into her dark eyes.
“I trust you…” Whispered Magica and leaned her head against his chest. For a moment Scrooge allowed himself a weakness and buried his beak in her silky hair, kissing her scalp.
Maybe this incident was a sign that it was time to be brave. But before he could open his mouth he heard her soft voice.
“I love you, Scrooge…”
She didn’t look up, embarrassed she continued to bury her face on his chest. He lacked the words, and before he remembered a rope was lowered to save them. “Hold… Hold on tight to me, I’ll need both hands…” His voice almost trembled and a comforting shiver ran through him as her arms snaked tighter around him. Scrooge didn’t pay attention to the ones around him when they reached the top.
As soon as he felt safe ground beneath him, he pulled Magica into his arms and kissed her. Ignoring the astonished cries of his family and friends. Magica had tears of joy in her eyes as she returned and deepened the deep kiss after a short surprise.
“I love you, Magica. I love you…”
Scrooge whispered tenderly in her ear as they separated from each other. Happily they smiled at each other until Magica took on a smudgy facial expression. “I thought you’d never dare, you stubborn old miser. And now let me help you.”
With great joy he let the words pass over him and entrusted Magica with the painful process of rolling his arm back in. Never had he enjoyed pain more than at that moment. None of the bystanders could say a word as they watched the whole scene.
But they too would learn to understand that Magica de Spell was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with if she accepted him.
