Thanks. The 3d form is from Cinema 4D, imported onto the Poser stage (because I'm more familiar with it), where I applied texture, bump and transparency maps I made in Photoshop and rendered the forms, then importred rendered images into Photoshop where I fiddled around with them -- most significantly applying Flaming Pear's Flood plugin for the water effect.

Yah...okay...now this IS intriguing.
One is reminded of some sort of sentient mollusk-class species sunning themselves.

Thanks. That's as good an explanation as any I thought of. I figured they had to be artifacts of some living thing -- an alien version of coral reefs or some such thing.
