DO NOT REPOSTBe sure to read from the start, The Wolfmouse: Fond Memories
Both Rathwolf and Muswolf fought hard to kill each other. Each was covered in bites and scratches but neither was going to let up for the Rathwolf killed anything it wanted to kill while the Muswolf wanted to kill any threats to the helpless. One officer made a move to shoot but Basil stopped him.
Basil: Your bullets are no good here.. Only a silver bullet will kill a monster like the Rathwolf.
Maria: He is correct.. You will only anger the beasts.
Officer: Then why did you bring us out here if you thought we couldn’t harm it?
Maria: You have a part to play in all this.. I have seen it. Basil of Baker street you must act soon..
The old gypsy looked down at the gun Basil held and instantly he knew what must be done. He tried to take aim but the two combatants were too close together and Basil had no desire to kill James.
Basil: I can’t get a clear shot!
The police chief came to his side and directed his officers to take up position off to the right.
Chief Whiskers: My officers will shoot above them to create a distraction.. Don’t miss.. READY!? AIM! FIRE!!!
Upon his command the officers fired their guns in the air above the heads of the fighting wolves. The two froze and more shots were fired. The Rathwolf had a new target to attack but the Muswolf grabbed him before he could get far. Basil aimed his shot carefully but the Rathwolf broke free and charged at the officers before the beast could reach them and begin a massacre; the Muswolf tackled the Rathwolf. Giving the officers time to get out of the way. In fury, the Rathwolf grabbed the Muswolf and threw him into a tree which created a large impact inside the hard tree. The Muswolf was motionless, not dead but unconscious. Just as the Rathwolf began turning, a shot rang out and the Rathwolf suddenly cried out in pain. Basil had taken his shot but seeing the Rathwolf still alive he shot again and again. Upon the fifth shot the Rathwolf fell dead. The officers approached slowly Soon as they were in view they watched in strange fascination as the Rathwolf shrank back into the form of Ratigan.
The chief: I don’t believe it.. Professor Ratigan.. He really was a Rathwolf..
Dawson: Basil! Come quickly!
Dawson was working hard to clean up the wounds on James’ Muswolf body. Basil ran over and assisted in getting the blood to stop flowing. They did all they could and bandaged him up. They turned to see that the Gypsy mouse Maria had crouched down by the dead form of Ratigan. Basil left the still unconscious Muswolf in Dawson’s care to approach the Gypsy. As he did he heard her recite a prayer of sorts.
Maria: The way you walked was thorny though most no fault of your own, evil you have done, but as the rain enters the soil, the river enters the sea, so tears run to a predestined end. Now you will have peace for eternity.
