absolutely enchanting... so much emotion in her eye, she looks scared.. i like the way her hair falls down and I agree that the image has more impact with a closer crop to her face.. I love the focus...such great contrast and lighting, all in all everything about the composition of the piece is lovely. this is one of those photos that you can't stop staring at.. cause she's staring you back, trying to tell you something, trying to tell a story..
oooh i love this..

how do you manage to have such texture? did you use photoshop? this photo is outstanding! I only stoped looking at it for about 10min to write this, and i'm going to look at it again right away...
What lightning did you use? i'm always having troubles to show the beautiful eyes of the models... any tips?
(love your gallery by the way... real inspiration for me to keep going...)

Thanks for noticing and appreciating this special image. It has almost no photoshop enhancements. This was all about an excellent capture of an exquisite pose in magical lighting; photography pure and simple. You can look at the original color version here [link]

She has beautiful eyes. I don't this is really a spontaneous portrait is it?

crshh-- Well, spontaneous is in the eye of the beholder. If you look in my gallery you can see the rest of the "close" series. I did a few shots in about ten minutes here. But I didn't have any of my fancy pro equipment, just my camera, Tammy, one window in her apartment for light, and a mirror to slightly enhance that light. This is about as spontaneous as I get!

Oh, how lovely. That sheet of light on her hair sets off the lights on her shoulder, face, and eye just perfectly. It's an elegantly balanced image without being at all symmetrical.
I also like that nothing around her face really draws attention from it. (The way, for example, a scoop neckline might.)

Sometimes things just come together and make something amazing. But it still required Tammy's effort and mine as well; that and a few almost random elements that conspired for something amazing.

Thanks Darth. I had posted this image in color, and a more full cropping. But I've been looking at the original for weeks thinking that I needed to see this in black & white and closer in on Tammy's exceptional face. Her expression is both intimate and maybe just a little sad, I think. It makes the image poignant and bitter sweet, at least as I see it. I like an image with subtle emotion, but still open to some subjective interpretation.
