^^ Though I like the black and white picture better than the full color

Sometimes b&w is better. Color can distract from tonality, and from other aspects of an image. Good observation!

I completely agree ^^ And thank you.
Mostly I like this picture in b&w because it makes her eyes just wow. Much better ^^

Both the color version and this one are wonderful shots. I agree that the b&w does enhance it though.

Me too. Color can be an unnecessary component, though it is often hard to convince people of that.

This stunning! Bw version is better imo. I love the sharpness and spark in her eye

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamesBrey In reply to riffmaker [2010-04-05 19:05:28 +0000 UTC]

I do agree, I like to show people that color isn't necessarily better, often in distracts from tonal qualities. B&w often trumps.

riffmaker In reply to JamesBrey [2010-04-05 20:19:24 +0000 UTC]

I know But not everybody can shoot bw... For example for me it's easier to shoot in color but I love black and white photography... But it probably wants to train the eye

JamesBrey In reply to riffmaker [2010-04-05 20:22:17 +0000 UTC]

I don't shoot in B&W any more, not since film died. I just dispose of color in Photoshop sometimes.

Da--Master [2010-02-22 21:24:41 +0000 UTC]

That's the magic of feminine intimacy right there; willingly letting her walls down and making herself more vulernable than a delicate flower in a seasonal tundra, because doing so is an act of womanly love. The more open they are with their lover, the stronger the bonds become between them.

Though my ussual response when in danger of experianceing intimacy like this is to run and hide behind my indestructable walls of fear, mistrust, and self loathing, I can occasionallly appreciate formalities such as this from my safe distance. So well done; it truely is a lovely thing that you've captured here, so long as I never have to respond emotionally to anything like it myself.

Thanks for the great comment! No wonder you are the Master of DA
and yes, I am happy that so many people can look at this image and see the magic of this amazing model's emotion-rich expression, just as my camera preserved it. One beautiful moment, an instant in the vastness of space-time, gone, never to exist again, but for this captured essence of that moment via another form of magic- photography.

duronboy [2010-02-09 03:59:56 +0000 UTC]

Lovely model, composition, light, pose. Fabulous monochrome conversion, as well. Only bad thing I can say is the whites of her eyes appear too light, making the editing too obvious. I'm by no means a master, quilty of this myself. And this is better than my best work. Just pointing out what I see!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamesBrey In reply to duronboy [2010-02-09 04:11:41 +0000 UTC]

duronboy; My opinion on that; There is a mirror under her, which put extra light into her eye (notice the double catchlight in her eye). Then in the momochrome conversion I pumped the contrast on the entire image, because b&w looks best with a full range of contrast from white to black. In a portrait the viewer's attention goes to the lightest areas and the areas of highest contrast. It is actually the very best thing that can happen to a portrait, if the eyes are both of those, so I wouldn't gray down the eye at all. Just my take on this issue.

It is good enough to get 300+ faves in under 24 hours, must be just about, pretty close to right

I always allow painting, sculpting and drawing ref. As long as none of my original digital image is used, it's good. Please link me to your painting when it is done! I may include the link here.
