For this week's personal project, I felt like doing anti-vent art.

There is this trend in the freelance art world, in that we always see an artist eventually draw something angsty and edgy to let out the anger and frustration that comes with being a freelance artist. It's not unusual, and to be honest it's more therapeutic than any other number of self-destructive methods to cope with the pressure of paying the bills by drawing boobs. But that being said, I have to frown a little at how repetitive it all gets after a while. It's always the same themes, crying puppies, dark shadows or blood everywhere. That's why I thought of having some fun for a change and draw vent art while also not drawing vent art. So I thought of this, my birb presenting his new painting of himself, in a straight jacket, completely coo-coo.

I tried to make the painting also goofy looking, what with the way his eyes are going in two directions, and that silly smily I gave him. It's the reality part of it, the griffer giving a thumbs up, what really mattered to me on this picture. Because a year ago I wouldn't have put it past me if I gave up on this three months in. I don't think the lockdown and the Covid had anything to do with the success of the project, especially when you realise how simple this was in context. It's 52 drawings in 52 weeks, there's peeps out there that do this daily and thus I don't think I'm better than any of them. But what I feel is that I am better than myself one year ago. And that's what I'm taking from this experience. Improvement and growth.

Now to get these all printed and set into a portfolio, and see how it goes with some of the graphic design studios in my city. Wish me luck!
